As of today, there is such as thing as a beauty comeback. Lancôme has delightfully surprised the beauty world with the announcement that Isabella Rossellini is returning to the French brand, more than 30 years after she became its first face. Back then, at 31, she was still three years shy of starring in David Lynch’s stunning Blue Velvet, and on her first day at Lancôme three decades ago, she said, "I plan to change misconceptions, about beauty." As a Tunisian model, and first Muslim face to be a pin-up girl for a beauty brand - she did just that.
Today, she is back, at 63 and vows to offer a broader definition of beauty, one that’s not limited by age. It helps that Rossellini has had such a diverse career. The daughter of Italian director Roberto Rossellini and Swedish screen vamp Ingrid Bergman, she was destined for the limelight, and as a star actress, model and mother, she has juggled her public life with poise and ease. For me, it was her perfect, imperfection, and her honest approach to ageing over the years that has seen her become an influencer. A woman that resonates with other women when it comes to the concept of beauty. Good move, Lancôme.
