If you want more from a facial than relaxation, Caci clinics are one destination that offer active skin treatments. These are not fluffy facials where you relax to the sound of whale music and get pampered; they are results-focused, in a tranquil spa environment. So when my invite arrived, I was instantly drawn to the Murad Hydrolyte Moisture Infusion Facial.
How it works: The first cleanser removes makeup, and a second, a gritty exfoliating enzyme cleanser followers, to buff skin clean. All the while a steamer gently bubbles close to my face, adding much-needed hydration. The Murad Hydra Dynamic serum is massaged into the skin for a few minutes, receiving a helping hand, (to absorb faster) with a sonic wave machine. Ashleigh Cahill, Caci's senior therapist, believes, "The sonic waves that pass over the skin, help push the molecules from the serum deeper, faster." She believes dehydrated skins are on the rise. "Dehydration and congestion are two of the most common skin conditions I see, but people often confuse that with dryness," Cahill explains that dryness is a lack of oil while dehydration is a lack of water. "We instantly feel we need richer moisturisers in winter to overcompensate for that dehydration, which then upsets the oil balance, and causes congestion." My unbalanced, skin soaked up the serum, and was eager for the warm combination of two masks, that followed. Brimming with natural moisturising goodies, such as avocado, cucumber and sunflower oil, the masks accompanied by a healing neck and shoulder massage makes this the perfect pre-winter skin treat. "Applying a warm mask helps increase blood flow in skin, and boost lymphatic drainage, another way of getting the skin to function at its peak," says Cahill. Another dose of the serum follows, and then a spritz of tonic, and I am ready for the ever important, slick of day cream with SPF.
What to expect: Leaving Caci, my skin was sporting a brilliant sheen. I could not help think about those who are office-bound, subjected to drying air conditioning all day, and how great this facial is for arrresting dryness. Or for those with sensitive, irritated skins - this facial could cheer up the unhappiest of complexions, leaving only radiance in its wake.
