5 superfoods for your skin

You are what we eat; I know you have heard that dozens of times, but when it comes to a luminous complexion there is a direct link between your diet and glowing skin. At the top of the list are antioxidants, vitamin C and Omega 3's, as well as a spice that can calm the most upset skin. Here are the best skin-loving superfoods that will make your face glow.

Salmon
There are no surprises that oily fish, salmon, in particular, is packed full of omega 3’s, a 'good' fat that does wonders for your complexion. New research into sun damage has found that regular salmon oil in your diet will help repair and protect skin from UV exposure.

Turmeric:
Known as the skin-loving spice, turmeric has incredible anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation leads to wrinkles and ageing in the short term and puffy, tired looking-skin long term. Eating or drinking dried, or fresh turmeric fights inflammation and is brilliant for calming mild to serious skin problems such as eczema and rosacea.

Avocados
Avocados are full of antioxidants, carotenoids and fatty acids such as omega 9’s. They regenerate damaged skin cells and reduce skin redness and irritation, while nourishing your skin from the inside out.

Blueberries
Packed with vitamin A, these little berries are fabulous for normalising oil levels in the skin and calming breakouts. They're brimming with antioxidants, vital for fighting and neutralising free radicals, the skin’s worst enemy for causing wrinkles, dullness and brown spots.

Lemon
Packed with vitamin C, they help make collagen and elastin (which strengthen and firm skin). They're also one of the best alkalizing foods and once metabolised in the body, they will alkalize the blood and balance our bodies’ pH levels, which are often out of whack from drinking too much coffee and wine, and eating fast food. Maintaining a good balance of acid and alkaline prevents skin from becoming sensitive, dry and irritated.
