Carla Zampatti at Clooney Restaurant in Auckland
This week's career-high was meeting the doyen of Australian fashion, Carla Zampatti. Undeniably one of Aussies most successful fashion designers, she has dressed some of Australasia's most influential women in business in her elegant dresses and sexy, tailored suits. After five decades of fashion excellence, she has turned her attention to what she describes a 'woman's best accessory' sunglasses. At an intimate media lunch at Clooney Restaurant in Auckland this week, Zampatti shared her latest collaboration, opticals and sunglasses the first Carla Zampatti AW18 collection - a 22-piece eyewear range with Specsavers. The collaboration is something the designer described as ‘a natural fit.' Her Italian heritage is evident in the styles on offer, and her love of ‘a good pair of glasses' was the inspiration for the range. "Glasses are the ultimate accessory. What you wear must look right, and they must feel right, they should be flattering, they should be versatile, and ideal for travel." Zampatti prides herself on creating styles that are timeless and classic. "Good design is something that can be worn day after day; you don't need to buy too much, buy a few pieces wear them to death, and then buy more. It's a great way to keep your wardrobe and fashion look fresh."
As for Zampatti's favourites in the collection? The large black aviators, for a high fashion look, the smaller tortoiseshell aviators, for every day and the pair she was sporting at lunch, is a vintage-inspired dusky pink that gives her the look of a fashion celebrity - a title she wears well.
