The eye area is the first place on your face to show the look of fatigue. Puffiness, wrinkles and redness - sound familiar? Well, there is one product that will erase these signs of tiredness, and that is concealer. However, not all concealers are created equal. Editor Trudi Brewer trials a full coverage concealer that corrects yet looks luminous and stays put for hours.
How to look less tired using concealer
On those days when you've had late nights, early starts, and a busy work schedule, makeup is a lifesaver. And we have the answer - the new Bobbi Brown Instant Full Cover Concealer, $65. The consistency is thicker than anything I have used before, but it wipes out the look of fatigue, and the semi-matte consistency ensures it lasts for hours. Bobbi Brown trainer Olivia Wildey says we all have a tendency to pile on makeup to disguise the look of tiredness, but before you do, always apply eye cream first; it helps to plump out those lines, which results in a brighter look under the eye and less makeup is required."
When selecting a shade, Wild says if you want to add brightness, go one shade lighter or simply correct darkness choose a concealer that is the same tone as your natural skin colour. "The skin under the brow arch is the lightest around the eye area; if your concealer is lighter than this, then your choice of concealer is too fair."
Here's how to use the new Instant Full Cover Concealer.
Wild's tips on how to use this concealer
Step 1. Apply a lightweight eye cream underneath the eyes; avoid the eyelids if you plan on wearing eye makeup. The cream should absorb quickly and leave your skin feeling smooth but not wet.
Tip: With any excess eye cream, don't waste it; press it around the lip area to fill fine lines before you apply lipstick.
Step 2. Using the tip of the doe foot applicator, dot Instant Full Cover Concealer under the eye and blend (a little goes a long way), so just a few dots in the corner of the eye and under the eye give a well-rested look. For heavier, opaque coverage, use the side of the doe foot applicator to swipe a generous amount under the eye forming an upside-down triangle. Blend with the applicator, fingers or a Full Coverage Touch Up Brush.
Tip: Make sure you brighten around the entire eye area. Including applying concealer under the brow bone and above the arch of the brow, as well as the inner and outside corners of the eyes, will add brightness to the entire eye area.
Trudi's tip: This concealer can be used to hide brown spots and any uneven blemishes, and once you apply a pop of colour and mascara, your face will take on a healthy, fresh-looking glow. My other Bobbi Brown must-have is the skin reviver Extra Illuminating Moisture Balm; blend a little with your cream blush, and press this creamy combination on the high points of the face to add a youthful-looking shimmer.
