Calvin Klein Women

The latest Instagram-worthy scent to land on my desk is, without a doubt, a fragrance that makes a statement. Editor Trudi Brewer shares the first perfume created by designer Raf Simons for Calvin Klein.

Calvin Klein Women fragrance

Calvin Klein Women from $79.

What is it?
Best described as a woody, citrus floral, it's the first fragrance designed in collaboration with perfumers Honorine Blanc and Annick Menardo under the direction of the brands designer and chief creative officer, Raf Simons.

What is in it?
The very first spritz will wake up the senses thanks to the combination of vibrant eucalyptus, bergamot, grapefruit, and lemon. Next, the hints of sweetness are the mix of raspberry, jasmine, orange flower, and magnolia. But what makes this new scent linger is the woody, powdery blend of cedar, white musk, and violet.

Who’s the face of the fragrance?
There are two up and coming starlets Lupita Nyong'o and Saoirse Ronan captured in colour alongside women who have influenced their past and future careers. Nyong’o's chose Eartha Kitt and actress Katharine Hepburn, while Ronan selected a childhood favourite actress Sissey Spacek, and the soul singer and civil-rights activist Nina Simone. Raf Simons selected Ronan and Nyong'o to front the campaign for the feminine spirit they both bring to the brand. He was quoted in the fragrance press release saying. “Calvin Klein Women is inspired by the transmission of strength and inspiration from one woman to the next; by plurality combined with individuality; freedom of expression; and the notion that the collective is as vital as the individual.”

Why do we like it?
The sculptural glass bottle highlights a wide-open woman's eye, printed on the acrylic disc-shaped cap. It’s the work of Simons lifelong friend, photographer, and artist, Californian-born Anne Collie. The campaign, six trailblazing women from different generations that identify through fashion a commonality that is both inspiring and relevant to women of all ages and races today. But ultimately it's always the scent that makes me want to share the story. It's instantly fresh, with a smooth woody aroma that lingers. The unique blend of eucalyptus and powdery violet has put this new scent right in my fragrance lane, and I love everything about it. They say that scent is one of the best ways to evoke memories from your past, with this new CK creation I can't help getting excited about what Simons has in store for the future.
