When Issey Miyake created their fragrance L'Eau d'Issey back in the 90's, it was designed to smell as 'clear as spring water'. That scent kick-started our love of aquatic perfumes which the Japanese fashion brand are masters at. Editor Trudi Brewer reveals the latest creation, a spin-off from the classic and it's called Pure Nectar.
Smelling like you have just stepped out of a shower will never date when it comes to wearing a fresh fragrance. However, the trend right now is certainly warmer and sweeter. Enter the next generation of Issey Miyake perfume named Pure Nectar. Here's what to expect.
What's in it?
The brand describes Pure Nectar as 'the ultimate stage in the metamorphosis of water from the sea to dew and from dew to rose.' Translated into why would I buy it, this scent still has a trace of that aquatic freshness that has made this brand famous, with the addition of warm honey and rose absolute. But what I did not expect was the fresh pulped pear, which is what makes it tart and mouthwatering. Finally a few hours later you are left with the blend of rose, sandalwood and sensual ambergris.
Why do we like it? Fragrance needs to surprise you. There are so many launches each year, and I have lost count of the offering from Issey Miyake. While this brand has a long history of excellence, churning out the same scent must start to feel repetitive. The latest, Pure Nectar is delightful. Fresh, yet warm and sexy and while it still has the same of the fresh charm of L'Eau d'Issey, the pear and honey make it unique. But it's the bottle that even today is one you will want to show off on the bathroom shelf. It's easily recognisable as the sister of this classic, the flacon is designed to mimic the original - a drop of water, but instead of being transparent with a silver-green sheen, it's tinted rich, rose gold and like the ingredients that are bound together inside it, this scent screams luxury.
