Two new scents join the Kenzo World line-up. Editor Trudi Brewer shares why she rates these new musky perfumes that are ideal for winter.
A new chapter in the Kenzo World story
It takes a special scent to make me want to wear it every day. I did not think I would be so easily swayed from my summer obsession, Tiffany & Co, however a new season is underway and I have a new crush: Kenzo World EDT, 30ml $91. This follow-up to the original Kenzo World Eau de Parfum is feminine, fresh and clean smelling. To create Kenzo World EDT – and a headier Kenzo World Intense EDP, which launches at the same time – are the work of award-winning perfumer Francis Kurkdjian (whose back catalogue includes Elie Saab Le Parfum, My Burberry for Burberry and Narciso Rodriguez for Her) joined by Maïa Lernout and the result has got me in a spin.
What's in it?
The combination of crisp, tangy pear, fresh almond blossom and musky peony, blended with elegant orris root stops this scent from being too fruity and girly. From the moment you spritz it on you are enveloped in a warm musky scent, which is precisely why I love it so much. The best way to describe this fragrance is that it smells clean and soapy, like you've just stepped out of the shower, dressed in a cashmere sweater and your casual boyfriend jeans, ready to curl up on the couch with your lover. It's gorgeous.
Why I like it
The brand says this scent is for the "woman who dares to be different; unfazed by society or the norm, her need for exhilaration and enthusiasm acts as a magnet to all". That sums it up nicely. I don't want to smell the same as every other woman in the crowd. I want my fragrance to reflect my personality, and let's face it, who doesn't like to be noticed. The first day I wore this scent while standing in a shop, a very handsome silver fox turned to me and said: "Wow, you smell great, what fragrance are you wearing?" Now, that's what I call scent-success!
Kenzo World EDT, 30ml $91.
My pick for winter, you're going to get sick of me raving about this new fragrance. The blend of pear, fresh almond blossom and pretty peony, mixed with the warmth and elegance of orris root gives this scent a musky edge. Warm, clean and soapy – that's the best way to sum up how it smells on my skin. It's official, I am in love with this fragrance.
Kenzo World Intense EDP, 30ml $122.
Launching at the same time, this bold interpretation of the first Kenzo World EDP also features a musky, lasting undertone. Along with peony (like the EDT version) other ingredients include plum, jasmine and sexy vanilla. There's not much Kenzo as a brand can do wrong right now. Under the watchful eye of American designer duo Carol Lim and Humberto Leon since 2012, their offbeat fashion and upbeat beauty is a thing of pure joy.
