The bathroom has gone from a functional space to a luxurious sanctuary. Style director Louise Hilsz shares the latest trends in one of editor Trudi Brewer's favourite room.
From bold colour to glitter tiles and brushed chrome, investment lighting and spa-inspired baths. This is the room in your home to make a style statement.
TILES
Tiles complete a bathroom, well that's what we believe. Resist the urge to lay a white tiled butchers look and choose a bold pattern or tranquil colour instead. From the contemporary herringbone design to Morroccan inspired iridescent tiles in shades of turquoise or azure blue, well-laid tiles are an investment and the most stylish accessory you can add to any bathroom.

PAINT
While white is still a bathroom staple, bold colour in tiles, grout and even vanity joinery is trending. Blush pink is making a comeback along with shades of calming green, cool blue or sunny yellow all ideal for this intimate space.
Stick to a neutral wall and ceiling colour such as white, cream or beige. And make sure you choose tiles and bathroom accessories that highlight these on-trend hues.
LIGHTING
Luxurious lighting is both functional and fashionable, lead largely by the advances in LED technology. This season a glitzy pendant or tinted glass globe helps create ambience in any size room. For flattering lighting over the vanity, hang a set of bulb-style pendants at eye level or to oversized lampshade will add a touch of feminine bling.

TAPWARE
Tap into metallics for your bathroom fixtures. In shades of rose gold, brass and chrome this season you are spoilt for choice. The range of different textures, shapes and shades including iridescent gold, brushed nickel and textured chrome have never looked so good.
FLOORING
Trends are cyclic and evidence of this is the antique-style wooden flooring trend in bathroom design right now. While concrete floors look chic, they are chilly on bare feet, in contrast to the warmth and beauty of a laminate wooden look floor. From shades of chocolate to rosewood or blonde Scandi-style, this is a truly beautiful hardwearing flooring option for any bathroom.
