Neutrogena Hydro Boost Sunscreen SPF50

One of the joys of summer is being outdoors enjoying those lazy days under the sun. But if you care about your skin, (and want to stay looking youthful) sunscreen is essential to that lifestyle. If the thought of slathering on an SPF conjures up memories of sticky, smelly, white lotion that takes ages to absorb and causes a breakout, we have some good news for you? Editor Trudi Brewer shares the virtues of a new screen.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Sunscreen SPF50, $27.

What is it?
If you avoid wearing an SPF because you don't like the way it feels or smells on the skin, we have found and tested an SPF 50 that protects like a heavyweight screen, feels like water, and smells like summer. Fast absorbing (10 seconds to be exact), it is moisturising and lightweight, offering a cucumber and melon (it smells more like a summer cocktail than a sunscreen). But it's the texture we are most excited by. A water-like gel that leaves the skin looking and feeling slightly matte.

What's in it?
Infused with moisture making hyaluronic acid, nourishing vitamin E, and glycerin, as well as the smart Helioplex sun safe technology. It is photostable, which means it doesn't start to break down under the sun, and broad spectrum offering protection from both UVA (ageing) and UVB (burning) rays.

Why do we like it?
Sunscreen is my go-to beauty product, I use it every day, and I have dozens of options. I am partial to the Neutrogena Beach Defense and Sheer Touch formulas and thought they would be hard to beat. However, on a recent work trip to Hawaii, we packed this new water-gel, and used it on the models and the rest of the team - it’s a winner. Oil-free, it won't cause skin irritation (like so many sunscreens), it blends effortlessly with makeup, and that white linen shirt and bikini - completely stain free. Start summer with a sunscreen you don't resist applying because of the feel and finish, but know you need to wear to wear it. Embrace this high tech, affordable SPF - and rest assured it has had been road tested under the 30 degrees Hawaiian heat and happily has the BEQ stamp of approval.
