Beauty pillowcases have been around for a few years. Brought to my attention by celebrities claiming there wrinkle-free skin, and super shiny hair was down to sleeping on silk - now I can now see. It’s fab. Not to mention the princess-like vibe you get once your head hits this luxuriously, soft fabric. Here are my thoughts on this new beauty investment.

Penny + Bennett Beauty Pillow, $99.

What is it?
New Zealand lifestyle brand Penny + Bennett is owned by Auckland-based fine art college studio-mates, Loren Marks and Sarah Carson. They design sleepwear, cushions, prints and gift cards as well as the mulberry silk pillowcase, named Beauty Pillow, which comes in two shades, Ivory and Kohl (black).

How does it work?
According to the design duo, the high-grade mulberry silk keeps moisture close to the skin and locked into the hair. It minimises the risk of sleep pressure, creasing your complexion and fluffy, frizzy hair caused by the friction of tossing and turning during a restless nights sleep.

Why do we like it?
It's luxurious to sleep on. Simple. While, nothing beats the look of a bed dressed in linen, Egyptian cotton or velvet, it's not great at keeping your hair smooth or skin-looking line free. Now I have slept on silk for the past month, I don't think I would go back. If you sleep on your side, (I have tried to train myself out of doing this, with no luck) the silk really does leave your skin feeling and looking smooth. And, as for my naturally-curly mop of hair - I no longer have to deal with the same level of frizz, after the friction from cotton pillowcases. It's dreamy, looks luxe-y, and I can now stretch out an extra day between my salon blow dry - I am sold.
One tip: If you're inclined to ever fall into bed still wearing makeup, like to apply generous amounts of face oil, or, you use a creamy, sleep mask before bed, opt for the colour black, as the Ivory will stain.
