If fragrance is one of the great joys in life - then the latest scents from Swiss jewellery makers Chopard are happiness in a bottle. Editor Trudi Brewer explains.
All great fragrance comes with a romantic story. From its inception to the celebrity muse that inspired it. The perfumer who carefully selects the notes - an unforgettable scent is indeed a work of art. The latest duo from Chopard combines ethical luxury, inspired by natural ingredients, designed to evoke positive emotions of happiness and joy. Commissioned by the brands co-president and artistic director Caroline Scheufele, it was created by perfumer Dora Baghriche-Arnaud. The brief was to use the most precious flowers, citrus, spice and woody essences Mother Nature has to offer, and create emotional energy through scent.
Taking on this task was Algerian-born perfumer Dora Baghriche-Arnaud who has created some top-sellers for luxury fashion houses including Kenzo, Versace and Salvadore Ferragamo, YSL, Viktor & Rolf. Her perfume style is best described as whimsical, light-hearted and adventurous, and these two new colognes are all of the above. "I was instinctively drawn towards natural ingredients as a starting point because they offer plentiful energy, spontaneity, and an immediate sense of being transported to a state of wellbeing and positive emotion," Baghriche-Arnaud told beauty media at the international Chopard launch, she adds. “The Happy Chopard collection is all about pleasure, colour, and the joy of life."
Here's what you can expect.
Chopard Happy Lemon Dulci, 40ml, $99.
Reminds me of the summer drink, Limoncello. It’s delicious, energetic and tangy. It's what green, fresh fragrance lovers look for in a new zesty scent.
What's in it?
From the moment you spritz it on the skin, it's impossible not to smile. The blend of tart lemon, bergamot, orange flower, and tangerine 'nature's antidepressants' will instantly lift your mood. After that the combination of ginger, shiso leaves, mint, sweet mango, and cucumber offer the very best aroma of a tangy, summer cocktail, leaving that overwhelming feeling of joie de vivre.
Why do I like it?
As far I am concerned this citrusy blend is the perfect summer perfume. I adore everything about this fragrance. Once the crisp scent of lemon fades you're left smelling what to me is like the aroma of sun-dried, freshly washed linen. The bright yellow bottle, topped with an emerald green gem-like-lid, is reminiscent of a precious Chopard jewel, and nothing less than a bottle of pure joy.
Chopard Happy Felicia Roses, $99.
Designed to offer a light-hearted, positive vibe in your day, the feminine colour purple known for calming anxiety, and boosting creativity is the perfect vessel for this subtle rose-based scent.
What's in it?
Sun-ripened berries are warmed by powdery rose and given a musky edge thanks to pink grapefruit and spicy blackcurrant buds. But what makes this a scent for that woman who loves to wear a silk floral dress in summer, is the blend of vibrant geranium and sexy ylang-ylang.
Why do I like it?
From the royal purple bottle to the combination of exhilarating blooms, this is genuinely a feminine, feel-good fragrance. It offers a calming influence to your day; it will leave a trail of subtle, powdery scent behind you, guaranteed to make those around you smile.
