As you get older, you don’t want to wear a mask of makeup to ensure your skin glows, which is why an effective skincare routine is so important. Editor Trudi Brewer shares a potent new anti-ageing duo from Avène that hydrates skin and smooths lines so well you can ditch the foundation.
Some of my favourite Avène products: Eau Thermale Spring Water, $28, Day Protector Tinted BB Cream SPF30, $49; and the new PhysioLift Smoothing Plumping Serum, $70, and Physiolift Precision Wrinkle Filler, $80.
Every woman wants a healthy-looking glow to her skin and I believe the only way achieve it is with an effective anti-ageing skincare routine. Used in combination, Avène PhysioLift Smoothing Plumping Serum and PhysioLift Precision Wrinkle Filler deliver a mega-dose of moisture, antioxidants and vitamins to the skin to boost firmness and luminosity within weeks. Here’s how they work.
Eau Thermale Avène PhysioLift Smoothing Plumping Serum, $70
What is it?
Avène Physiolift Smoothing Plumping Serum is lightweight and designed to target moisture loss while firming and improving the overall texture and tone of the skin. Applied under your moisturiser or BB cream, this serum acts like a moisture-magnet for dry, ageing complexions.
What's in it?
The serum contains two forms of hyaluronic acid (hyaluronic acid microspheres and hyaluronic acid mono-oligomers), which give an immediate plumping effect on the surface of the skin, while tripling the moisture levels in the deeper layers of the epidermis over time for longer term results. Ascofilline, found in brown algae, firms and further hydrates, and vegan-friendly plant-based antioxidants help to reignite your own collagen production. Finally, like all Avène products, mineral-rich thermal spring water forms the base of the serum to help soothe the most sensitive of skins.
How does it work?
Used twice a day, it has an instant firming and tightening effect on the skin. Then, over time, the ingredient combination of moisture-magnets and antioxidants work below the surface of the skin to plump and hydrate the complexion from the inside out. A little goes a long way, use two pumps (I warm the serum between my fingers), pat it on, and in sweeping movements gently massage the serum into the skin.
Eau Thermale Avène PhysioLift Precision Wrinkle Filler, $80
What is it?
Avène Physiolift Precision Wrinkle Filler delivers potent anti-ageing ingredients right where you need them to smooth the look of fine lines and wrinkles over time. Best used at night, the simple pen-like precision applicator dispenses the perfect amount of product into the line, crease or furrow and starts work immediately to correct the most visible signs of ageing.
What's in it?
It’s packed with an age-erasing derivative of vitamin A (known as retinaldehyde), which is just as effective but much more gentle on the skin than pure retinol, reducing the risk of irritation. The powerful antioxidant vitamin E, and the same soothing base of pure mineral-rich thermal water, nourish and calm the skin as the wrinkle filler gets to work.
How does it work?
With a simple click of the pen-like applicator, a tiny amount of mousse-like concentrate is dispensed into the line or wrinkle, where it expands to fill even the deepest furrow. Excess concentrate can be gently pressed and patted into the skin with your fingertip. This product is designed to be used at night.
Why do we like this hydrating duo?
The instant moisture boost the serum gives my skin is both impressive and extremely gratifying and the feel of it is addictive, absorbing quickly to give an immediate tightening effect under my BB cream. Right now my skin is dry (post summer) and this hydration fix is just what it needs to get glowing again. I love the way I can use the Wrinkle Filler to precisely target the pesky lines around my mouth, plumping and smoothing them out. Finally, the packaging is genius. Both products are housed in airless pumps that are not only hygienic and great for travel but, most importantly, keep the active ingredients at their potent best (vitamin A, including retinaldehyde, degrade when exposed to light or oxygen) for the duration of use.
