Facials are considered the ultimate in self-indulgence when it comes to beauty treatments, which makes them the perfect gift for Mother's Day right? Editor Trudi Brewer selects a bespoke treatment tailored to suit your complexions every need.

While I would agree, a facial in a luxe-y spa is the ultimate way to treat yourself; it's also the best way to reboot dry, dehydrated skin, at the same time. Here's what you can expect from the Skin Changing Facial.
The clinic
About Face has built a name for itself as one of the very best facial destinations in Auckland. Why I hear you ask? They offer bespoke skin treatments, tailor-made to correct and perfect any skin with a mix of hands-on luxury and high tech tools.
What you can expect
Two high tech treatments layered on top of each other gives your skin the reboot it needs to get glowing again. Rigorous, yet gentle exfoliation, you take your pick from either a skin peel or microdermabrasion.
Next is a session of Omnilux light therapy or an active vitamin infusion, or an active vitamin infusion that is heightened by sonophoresis (sound waves that help to push the concoction of vitamin-enriched serums deep into the skin). After this combination even the most exhausted-looking skin will feel firmer, and look more hydrated in the 50 minutes it takes to have this treatment.
The steps
Under the duvet at Auckland's About Face Ponsonby clinic, it's hard not to instantly relax. Hydration and clarity were on my wish list regarding results. After the initial consultation, both the therapist and I agreed the best course of action would be a skin peel, to clear the look of residual sun damage from our long hot New Zealand summer, followed by the vitamin infusion to plump out the fine lines, the result of dryness and skin dehydration. During the peel, my therapist silently got to work with the dècolletè and facial massage, (something I always look forward to when having a facial). Next, the active vitamin infusion, (a blend of Ultraceuticals serums) pushed deep into the skin using a high tech, low-frequency current known as Sonophoresis. This is a super relaxing skin treatment, but it's also active, thanks to the blend of Environ and or Ultraceuticals, custom blended to treat every inch of your complexion. The final step in this treatment a speedy brow tidy, helps you leave looking well-groomed. The options with this facial are many and varied, you can suggest what your skin needs or leave the decision in the hands of one of the About Face skin experts. Either way, you will see results.
The results
Once out of the treatment room, I was not surprised to see a clear and plump looking-complexion staring back at me in the mirror. I happily left the clinic sporting only a lightweight veil of tinted SPF. If my kids deliver an About Face Skin Changing Facial voucher on a breakfast tray with my morning coffee this Mother's Day I would be glowing with anticipation before I even dial the number to make the booking.
