The next chapter in a classic fragrance story, one that began more than 60 years ago satisfies my obsession for summer-inspired scents. Editor Trudi Brewer shares the new Givenchy L'Interdit.
Givenchy L'Interdit EDT, 50l, $146.
All the best fragrance stories are about love and friendship - and this is a goodie. Inspired by Hollywood starlet Audrey Hepburn, when Hubert de Givenchy created her an individual bespoke, fragrance back in 1957, who knew it would be reinterpreted once again in 2019. Here’s what to expect from the first spritz.
What is it?
L'Interdit (pronounced ‘Lon-ter-dee’ and means not allowed in English) was a smash hit when it launched last year. Those three famous perfumers Dominique Ropion, Anne Flipo, and Fanny Bal, also created this fragrance, but in a summery-inspired eau de toilette version, which completes this elegant collection.
What's in it?
There is certainly a family resemblance with last years smash hit EDP, it's lives up to its fragrance family being a woody floral, however, if like me you want a burst of freshness from a fragrance this line up of ingredients will impress. Orange blossom, heady sweet tuberose and Pavot (poppy) flower. Made all the more wearable with a splash of crisp, green vetiver, musk, and delicate patchouli.
Why do we like it?
Designer scents are on a roll right now, especially those luxe-y brands that start with the letter G. If the 2018 version of L'Interdit is as a celebration of grace and femininity, then this new lighter, fresh, green version is lively and edgy. I adore white flowers in fragrance, especially the classics such as tuberose and orange blossom, they never date. When bottled in a scent they are not only uplifting but have the ability to transport you to those carefree summer days, and memories of being barefoot in the sand with salt in your hair. Yes, it's fresh, but it's also sensual thanks to the addition of musk. I am picking this edition will be a summertime classic - that you can wear both during the day, and when the sun goes down.
