Adrian Hailwood is the master of design. From his fashion collections to leather handbags and now semi-precious jewels. A new chapter in his design evolution, for him this project was a long time coming. Our editor Trudi Brewer, has cast her eye over the range and can’t decide what she wants most, the delicate rose quartz, amazonite or on-trend mother of pearl. Or, take the designers advice and stack-up of these dainty pieces, to make a definite style statement.

Where do you find your inspiration as a fashion designer to make a jewellery collection?

It’s been on the slow burn, for several years, and it seemed like the right time to develop ideas and designs that I had thought of often when designing the clothing ranges. Over the COVID lockdown, I could actually sit and draw the designs for days, which was a luxury and real pleasure.

How long does it take to make each piece of jewellery?

From the initial drawings to wax moulds, to the first casting, and the final piece, four weeks. However, I made a lot of changes with initial sampling so more like four months! I had plenty of time to get it right.

What are the most exciting gems to work with right now?

I wanted to create a fine jewellery collection that was a bit luxe, and a bit glam that could be worn all day and night. Using semi-precious stones and crystals makes it affordable. Working with Amazonite and rose quartz are my two favourites.

What piece are you most excited by from this new collection?

I love the Helene pink square-cut tourmaline and clear quartz gold ring, as it’s just so feminine and beautiful.

How do you take care of luxe jewellery?

The jewellery is made from a solid sterling silver base, with an 18-carat gold plate so, the best ways is to clean it with warm soapy water.

What is your best jewellery tip for summer?

Wear everything together, layer up the pieces to make a statement. This season, think gold, gold, and more gold.
