Laughter, it's said, is the best medicine, and right now, we're hanging onto that thought. Tapping into these brilliant comedians on the daily, who in our opinion, share some of their best work from isolation. Style director Louise Hilsz edits the best laughs online right now.
@thomassainsbury
Fact: Our editor is in love with the uber-talented Tom Sainsbury. Right now his ISO daily solo concerts are not only the work of a genius they make us laugh out loud. And don’t get us started on his character Gingerbread the cynical tomcat over on Facebook who posts every Monday. Watching Gingerbread is the best start to our working week. Thanks Tom for being the master of comedy and allowing us to escape to your page on the daily - we all love you!
@urzilacarlson
Our style director has had the pleasure of working with one our best (Kiwi adopted, she moved here from South African 13 years ago) comedians Urzila Carlson as her stylist on the TVNZ weekly comedy show, Have You Been Paying Attention. Hilsz swears Carlson is the ultimate guide to ‘living your best life’, with belly-aching laughs along with way. If you are in you bubble with kids- follow her, she will keep you sane!
@sainthoax
This mysterious, brilliant sociopolitical artist will keep you entertained for hours. Her unapologetic jabs at celebrities and politicians have become works of art - quite literally. She has absolutely no filter, and in her own words, ‘I celebrate being politically incorrect’. Perhaps that’s why she is one of our all-time favourite accounts to follow. If you love her artful expressions on the gram, you can buy them as keepsakes. Her prints sell online from $195 US here. Featured post image is Fashion Queen.
@celestebarber
There is no end to this comedians ability to entertain. From her daily life with her ‘hot husband’ and kids, to the video copy clips of her piss-taking model and celebrity behaviour. In our opinion, she makes some of the best content online. Her most recent global engagement was with 1.3 million people across the globe, raising $52 million dollars for the New South Wales Rural Fire Service and their families after the recent, devasting bush fires in Australia, now that’s what we call pulling power.
@chrisparker11
Following Chris’s antics from home is not only motivating it’s hilarious. Another one of our favourite funnymen when it comes to stand up and improv comedy, he can do anything as a one-man show. From a kitchen cafe with tourists who can’t speak English, to a bloody good fitness routine, not to mention his latest obsession felting. His goal during lockdown is to craft an entire funny farm of felt animals - we want to know where he got those craft supplies!
@dudewithsign
The power of the unspoken word is what this Instagram guy does best. His page was bowing up before anyone had heard of COVID-19, and now facing global ISO his signs get better by the day. Pongiant and powerful, but laced with humour his signs say what we are all thinking on the daily. He is one to follow for sure.
@olima_omega
Not only is this our daily dose of eye candy, but this Irishman is also mad funny, light on his feet, and ripped with muscle. He is just the man to give you some #inspo when it comes to exercise right now. If the temptation to bake during the day, and drink wine while lying on the couch at night has hit you too, then here is the man to #motivate you into using this time to get fit. In his own words, “Social Isolation can’t stop us being together.”
@theinspiredunemployed
First up we have nothing but total admiration for the effort that goes into each post from these Aussies “battlers trying to find themselves.” While they’re busy trying to work out where they are going, we’re busy following. From get-fit videos to numerous tradie antics, and of course how to stay safe in ISO - thanks to giving us daily laughs boys.
@hijosh
Lucky girl Billie to have a dad like Josh, his adorable bub now has a starring role in this Aussie funnyman’s social media. He shares those day to day accounts of washing your hands (so good), to how to get the moves of his ‘Social Dis-Dancing’, and new parenting tips for those in lockdown. He is clever, he is super funny and he has what we call the full package - a gorgeous family too. Stay safe Josh.
@anjelahjohnson
We first found Angjeah on Youtube when we stumbled across her standup experience at a nail salon animated as a cartoon, check it out here. Her manicure piss-take of experience having a mani will keep you upbeat in isolation. She can dance, and so can her music producer hubby, who stars with her in her feed. She is also brilliant on TikTok. And while she has always been in our top ten for funny girls on the gram, we love even more now we know chips and salsa are her favourite food groups.
