Start your day with a brain food smoothie. See recipe below.

There is a philosophy that nature may highlight plants and vegetables that may help our body with certain functions. Here’s a quick history lesson: Known as The Doctrine of Signatures, first hypothesised by Greek philosophers, but further developed by Paracelsus, a Swiss physician in the German Renaissance. The doctrine states that herbs resembling various parts of the body can be used by herbalists to treat ailments of those body parts. It seems that Paracelsus was onto something; back to Mother Nature, maybe she is trying to guide us to eat what we need, especially in times when we need to focus and be at the top of our game.

One of Paracelsus famous quotes sums it up nicely, “The art of healing comes from nature, not from the physician. Therefore the physician must start from nature, with an open mind.”

Below is the food to add to your diet to boost your performance and brain function

The sliced carrot resembles the iris of the eye

When sliced can resemble the iris of the eye. They are rich in beta carotene, which is essential for eye health, particularly the macula.

Part of the brassica family which includes Brussel’s Spouts and cabbages, all these vegetables are rich in a nutrient called choline. This is a substance produced in the body that is used to maintain the brain cells, which allows us to think clearly and maintain a good memory.

Walnuts, when halved in the shell, resemble the brain

Rich in Omega 3 oils, which help to maintain glowing skin, walnuts are also good fats in the brain.
