I will never know how The Ordinary creates such brilliant products while keeping prices so affordable. My latest crush is this serum foundation and concealer says editor Trudi Brewer. Read on to find out why, and check out her before and after shots.
The Ordinary has a cult following, and I am across most of the skincare (and I love it), but new to The Ordinary's Colours Serum Foundation and Concealer. It turns out, these two products also live up to the hype and not just because of the price tag. The foundation is the perfect balance of colour boosted with skincare in a lightweight yet buildable formula. At the same time, the concealer covers dark spots and redness without looking caked on.
What is it?
A lightweight, serum-infused foundation and super-blendable concealer that together offers the perfect cover for a natural-looking finish. It's easy to blend with fingers, leaves the skin, dewy-looking glow rather than matte, and costs a fraction of most other skincare-infused foundations.
How to choose the right shade
There are 21 shades divided into four categories: 1 for lighter tones, 2 for medium tones, 3 for dark/deep tones, and 4 for deeper tones. Each category is then classified further by a second digit from 0 to 4 to indicate depth within each category. Finally, a letter is added to the shade code to identify the undertone: P (Pink) and R (Red) indicate cool undertones. N indicates a Neutral tone. Y (Yellow) indicates a warm undertone. Note: The Ordinary Concealer was formulated to be slightly lighter in comparison to the Serum foundations.
What's in it?
Both the foundation and concealer contain fairly common face makeup ingredients such as film-forming polymers, hydrating emollients, coconut, and silicone, which gives the foundation glide, you need when applying it. There are natural iron oxides and mica powders for colour and luminosity. Finally, titanium dioxide provides the skin with a physical sunscreen of an SPF15.
The Ordinary Colours Serum Foundation, $15 and The Ordinary Colours Concealer, $13.
Why do I like it?
Our editor Trudi Brewer wearing The Ordinary Colours Foundation in 2.0P and Concealer in 2.0P.
I love the flexibility of this foundation and how it covers my pigmentation, but it does not settle into my lines. I used the concealer at the corner of my eyes to give the illusion of a lift and then around my nose to cover the redness. I have applied it a few different ways, fingers and a brush, and I prefer blending it with the brush. I'm not too fond of heavy coverage, and just one pump covers the entire face. The brand says it contains a 'spreadability system', which allows the colour pigments to look natural once on the skin and stay on for hours - it's done precisely that. If a healthy-looking, even complexion is what you're after and you want your face to feel almost makeup-free, you cannot go wrong with this combo.
Here’s why it’s a summer essential.
