Gucci strikes again with a new Flora; this time, it celebrates the sensual sweetness of jasmine, says editor Trudi Brewer. Read on to discover why our style director is in love.
The combination of Alessandro Michele's creative direction and the famous French perfumer Alberto Morillas can do wrong with the Gucci Flora collection. So when I saw Gorgeous Gardenia late last year, I had to get my hands on it. Its perfect pink lacquer bottle adorned with the famous Gucci floral print, endorsed by multi-platinum-selling recording artist Miley Cyrus, did not disappoint. So now Cyrus is fronting another in the collection. This time it comes in a beautiful turquoise lacquer bottle, and if you like the scent of jasmine, this one is worth a spritz.
What's in it?
The first moment you spray on this newbie, the richness of Grandiflorum jasmine hits you. Those tiny snowy petals are unassuming at a glance. Still, their sensual sweet perfume not only alleviates stress and anxiety but is also an aphrodisiac and one of the most exquisite summery flowers in fragrance making. Then adding mandarin, blended with bergamot and black pepper, gives it a musky, zingy twist. Finally, magnolia and damask rose, with benzoin, Australian sandalwood and patchouli, make it undeniably warm at its core, but the warm, spicy qualities will surely get you compliments.
Gucci Flora Gorgeous Jasmine, 30ml, $140, 50ml, $190 and 100ml, $258.
Exclusively available from Smith & Caughey for October.
Why do we like it?
Few fragrance houses have nailed white florals like Gucci. However, while the boldness of jasmine gives this fragrance a contemporary feel, it's balanced with the magnolia and rose, making it also equal parts feminine and sensual at the same time. So, if like our style director Louise Hilsz, you want your fragrance to make you feel like you are permanently on holiday, she believes with this newbie, "You can close your eyes and pretend through this scent alone."
