A Y2K fashion revival has been slowly creeping onto the fashion scene, and after watching the latest Netflix series, Beckham, we are reminded of why we loved it and are happy to see it back. From shows like The Simple Life and Sex in The City to celebrities like Justin Timberlake and Brittany Spears we saw trends like Canadian tuxedo (double denim), low-slung jeans, shield sunglasses, it bags, Juicy Couture tracksuits, rhinestones and Dior Saddlebags to name a few that have made Y2K so memorable. Style director Louise Hilsz takes us down memory lane and shares the latest buys from this trend if you dare to go back there.
Fashion
While you may think tacky, the low-slung, low-rise jeans in distressed denim, velour tracksuits and stand-out slogan T-shirts will be everywhere this summer. Choose your favourite look and then dress it your way.
Handbags
The iconic bags from the 2000’s are making a giant comeback. From the Dior Saddle bag to the Fendi Baguette and a new take on the Balenciaga classic these trends reflect the 2000’s but the bags are keepers.
Dior Saddle bag, $7100. Fendi Elaphe and neon yellow sequin Baguette, US$5100. Balenciaga Neo Cagole City Handbag, $4550. Louis Vuitton 2008 pre-owned Multicolour Monogram tote bag, US$3505.
Accessories
A trucker cap, low-waisted statement belt (preferably a western/boho vibe), shield sunglasses, and chunky jewellery is the quintessential 2000’s look - we love everything about these accessories.
Von Dutch Pink Crush Velvet trucker, $109. B-Low The Belt Bri Bri Waist Belt, $315. Gucci GG 1436 004 Gold Pink sunglasses, $930. MADÉ Silver 8mm Celestial Protection Necklace, $95
Shoes
Brittany Spears teeny bopper sneakers, a glitzy wedge, platform thongs and a pointed featured boot. Straight out of any music made in the 2000’s these shoes are key to finishing your look.
Skechers Doja Cat: Doja'Lite Pop, $125. MW by Kathryn Wilson Belle Wedge, $349. Bronwyn Billie Sandal, $380. Moschino Denim boots, US$650.
For every festive occasion.
