The mood board

Starting any renovation can be daunting, but creating a mood board was invaluable. A collection of ideas helps you draw up a wish list while narrowing your choices, creating a cohesive look within your budget. The next step was getting expert advice; we headed to Mico, the bathroom specialist.

Resene Comfortably Numb paint available from Resene ColorShops .Missoni Home Giacomo towels, from $29, from Tessuti. Early Settler Maree Velvet Ottoman Blush Pink, $329. Matthew Hall Glass Dodici pendant light, in Opaline, $890.

Expert advice

At Mico, the sky is the limit for tapware, vanities, showers, and accessories, with plenty of designs to suit any budget. We were delighted to discover we could custom-colour any Resene paint shade and any wood panel finish on the vanity. We chose Comfortably Numb paint, a dreamy, almost icy shade of blue, for the Raymor Camden wall-hung compact two-drawer vanity drawers. To complement this classic bowl-style basin, the Mico VCBC Moon Kordura countertop basin looked perfect.

Mico Raymor Crawford Wall Hung Vanity 2 Drawer, Custom Colour, $1900. Mico VCBC Moon Kordura countertop basin, $305. Shark Beauty FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System in copper, $550. Tile Studio Class Bianco matt flooring tiles, $POA.

Colour scheme & accessories

Our colour scheme started with Resene Comfortably Numb as a feature shade, then Resene half black and white as the base colour, with a hint of gold as an accent hue. Our goal was to create a luxurious holiday vibe for when family and friends come to stay. So we went for a tiled feature wall using Italian graffiti tiles in the colour sky, laid in a herringbone pattern to anchor those colours. We were sold on the brushed gold Felton Tate range of tapware and accessories. Mico suggested the single Mico Heirloom Strata Studio towel warmers, a genius addition to offset that metallic touch.

Mico Heirloom Strata Studio Towel Warmer, $365. Missoni Giacomo towels from $29. Felton Tate Toilet Roll Holder Brushed Gold, $114. MC Tiles Graffitti tile in Sky, $POA.

Tapware

Elegant tapware is like adding the perfect piece of jewellery that elevates any fashion look. While chrome has been the go-to finish for many years, warm metallics like brushed gold and brass now lead the charge in bathroom design. These metallic finishes warm your bathroom, add instant luxury, and complement natural finishes like marble, wood and tiles. The Felton Tate collection of brushed gold tapware, including the Felton Linea Rain collum brushed gold shower head and mixer, was used with the Athena Slateforma shower.

Felton Linea Rain Column Brushed Gold, $1209. Nesti Dante Villa Sole Pineapple Flowers from Etna Liquid Soap, $25. Ellis Brooklyn Salt Eau De Parfum, $$47 - $299. Felton Tate sink mixer in brushed gold, $1,037.

Shower & toilet

The finishing touches are the most important. We chose the Mico Raymor Brighton framed rectangular shower, which is spacious, easy to clean, and works perfectly with the layout of a square room. The same goes for the classic Mico Raymor Dawson II back-to-wall toilet suite. We wanted this vital accessory to sit decently flush against the wall to ensure the floor space was not compromised. With the bathroom complete, we are thrilled with the results and can’t wait to share it with our friends and family.

Mico Raymor Dawson II Back to Wall Toilet Suite, $535. Mico Raymor Brighton framed rectangular shower, $2299. MOR Boutique Emporium Classics Snow Gardenia Hand & Body Wash, $44. House of Plants Zamioculcas oxygen plant, $30.
