Bathroom Mood board

Function is no longer the sole focus of a bathroom renovation. The latest design trends infuse elements prioritising tranquillity and wellness, creating a retreat rather than a restroom. Searching for inspiration for a new guest house bathroom, here is my research mood board before taking the plunge. By editor Trudi Brewer.

Casual or formal, modern or traditional, neutral tones or a pop of colour? These are all things to consider before a bathroom renovation. Then, details like chrome and brushed gold tapware, paint shades, and feature walls use bold wallpaper. So, to narrow down a plan, it started with the desire to create a bathroom as a wellness destination, a relaxing, light-filled space to begin and end the day.
Here are the trends I like.

Spa-like bathrooms

Inspired by beauty destinations, having a space to feel rejuvenated in your home is becoming more critical, and a beautiful bathroom is a perfect escape. From intricate mosaic tiling, so you can splash as much as you like, mood lighting and marble finishes. Water has a solid link to wellness, as does scent; to create the look and feel of a luxury spa, think of a calming colour scheme, fluffy towels, scented candles, and mood lighting to help you transform the space into a tranquil haven.

Warm neutrals

Colour palettes are moving toward warmer, earth-inspired tones, and bathroom design is no exception. Instead of stark whites, tan, off-whites, beige and brown are becoming popular colour choices. With that move to warm tones, brushed gold tap ware is both complementary and elegant. Gold and brass for sinks tap ware and shower heads, is a gret way to mix up your metals.

Missoni Home Giacomo towels, from $29, from Tessuti. PLUMBLINE Kube right basin, $1,199. Artisan ochre gloss, from $125 per m2 from Tile Space. FELTON Linea basing mixer in brushed nickel, $450, from Mico.

Biophilic design

Heavily influenced by nature, this bathroom needs warm woods and calming paint shades in shades of blue, green, and soft pastels. Adding plants or seeing the outdoors inside is the easiest way to build a peaceful sanctuary. Textured tiles, cane cabinets, floating bowl vanities, and mood lighting will give you a moonlight-like glow.

Quiet Luxury

Create a timeless bathroom that feels comfortable while being sophisticated and aspirational. Like fashion, this trend focuses on investment pieces, like fixtures and fittings, that are less about a specific look and more about creating understated elegance.

curved lines

Curved basins, baths and even mirrors with rounded lines help to lessen the look of clinical space. Curves may not feel overly dramatic in terms of a style statement, but they can make any small bathroom feel bigger because every inch of space appears endless.
