This is the time of the year to update your fragrance wish list. Editor Trudi Brewer shares a memory and a new beginning worthy of being a must-have perfume purchase this summer.
I was obsessed with Calvin Klein OBSESSION back in 1985. It was intense and hypnotic, yet fresh and for me, unforgettable. Then I met my now husband who latched onto its woody partner Calvin Klein OBSESSION for Men. Together they made a fragrance match in heaven - so much so that when I smell them today, it brings back memories sealed in my heart from decades past. Editor Trudi Brewer shares her new Calvin Klein addiction - OBSESSED.
What's in it
OBSESSED for Women, 50ml, $91 is a blend of citrus, musk, neroli, violet leaf and sage. Unique, some would call this green and fresh, others may describe this scent as a woody floral. Regardless of its label, it is one of the most vibrant launches this summer. And perhaps the most captivating note is white lavender. Musky, yet woody, this bloom is typically only used in men's colognes and it's the secret to why it lingers for hours.
OBSESSED for Men, 75ml, $91 is also a scent I would wear. The men's version is light leaving that aroma of clean skin thanks to grapefruit (my hubby has taken to it from the very first spritz), but it has a serious hit of spice courtesy of Sichuan pepper, black cardamom and black vanilla. Interestingly like the ladies, OBSESSED for Men, has a base of rich vanilla, traditionally used in women's scents.
Why do we like it?
It's true that perfume evokes strong memories, case in point my romance with Obsession all those years ago. For that reason this new fragrance duo was always going get my attention, from a nostalgic perspective and the fact that Calvin Klein can do no wrong when it comes to fashion right now. And thanks to the exciting twist of ingredients used in the making of this scent collection, we can tell both will be keepers. Finally, the fact that it is not gender specific is another drawcard. That sentiment with the launch of CK ONE was what made this 90's brand a household name and today with these new additions to the lineup, in fragrance circles, Calvin Klein is most certainly making a massive comeback.
