Sunscreen is the only anti-ageing beauty product that will stop fine lines and pigmentation - while protecting your delicate skin from the sun's punishing rays. Trudi Brewer shares some of her favourite screens.

Relying on makeup alone to protect the skin from the sun's rays is a no, no. However, priming it with this lightweight cream first is an excellent addition to your daily beauty routine. Physical screens such as zinc oxide, plant extracts, including soy protein which helps fade pigmentation, while you use it. And the hydrolyzed pearl extract in the formula blur imperfections, before applying foundation.

Contains a blend of both physical and chemical screens in a formula called Heloplex, which offers  UVA and UVB protection. The Heloplex give broad spectrum protection with an advanced stabilisation complex to help your SPF stay active longer while you are out under rays. It provides a matte finish, ideal for those with oily/ or combination skin wanting a weightless, matte -looking sunscreen for under makeup. If your skin is on the dry side, you need to wear a moisturiser under this screen. Shake bottle well before applying.

Ultraceuticals SPF30 Sheer Tint, $84.

My go-to sunscreen for the face is this clever SPF that blends hydrating ingredients such as Shea butter and Panthenol powerful antioxidants niacinamide (vitamin B3), physical mineral screens and a clever mineral tint that is universally flattering , blending like makeup into the skin. It's also free from the nasties paraben, synthetics and is fragrance-free.

A zinc-oxide-base that does not leave a white cast, it works for any skin type. From being out in the sun or protecting your skin from the HEV blur rays emitted while sitting at your laptop, this has the hydrating feel of a luxe-y face cream yet the punch of a broad spectrum SPF.

Made with the blend of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, and vitamin C along with a marigold extract named lutein that helps promote skin clarity, it also contains a barely-there mineral tint made from colour correcting particles helps create an even, flawless complexion. This lightweight formula offers broad-spectrum protection from both UVA (ageing rays) and UVB (burning rays), infrared radiation from microwave ovens and HEV rays or blue light.

Environ RAD SPF15, $56.

For both the face and body, anyone who reacts to the chemical  ingredients in sunscreen should try this SPF. While it only offers a screen of 15; it gives adequate protection (if you also cover up) is packed with antioxidants and vitamins to combat the effects of the sun and pollution on the skin. It is lightweight, yet nourishing and is suitable for all ages, including babies.
