I love makeup for its ability to instantly improve the way you look and mask the signs of ageing. But the secret to every woman getting luminous-looking skin lies in the latest foundation innovations. Enter Revlon Youth FX. Editor Trudi Brewer explains how this new range works.
Fine lines and wrinkles don't bug me as much as brown spots and an uneven, dull complexion - okay who am I kidding. The look of my ageing complexion is a concern, so with the promise of makeup to give a luminous-look at my fingertips - I am excited. Without blinding you with science, Revlon Youth FX has taken foundation, concealer and primers to new heights.
A combination of instant filling wrinkle technology, micro-fillers, optical diffusers and a range of hydrating ingredients including vitamin E, makes this line up pretty unique. The ingredients work to blur wrinkles, and fill lines, but it's the tiny microspheres in this technology that are truly impressive. They stick to the wall of the wrinkle hydrating and plumping out the line. Layered over the skin the primers feel silky smooth, and once the foundation is applied, the finish is like the look of a built-in snap chat filter. The secret to a flawless end result is layering the Revlon Youth FX range of four products together to give skin that healthy-looking glow - it's a game changer for anyone wanting to look like themselves - only better.
Here's how the range works.
How to get the look
Step 1 & 2
Youth FX Fill + Blur Wrinkle Filler and Primer
I can't stress enough how primers help to correct skin imperfections and give your complexion a luminous finish before you apply foundation. Their greatest benefit is how they prevent you from being heavy handed with foundation, which can accentuate wrinkles. Revlon Youth FX Wrinkle Filler and Primer go hand in hand, to fill and blur the look of lines, they also correct the look of dry skin. To fill deep wrinkles brush on Wrinkle Filler on the forehead and above the brows, and then follow with the velvet smooth Primer for Face and Neck over the rest of the face. Once you have applied the primers, wait a few seconds for them to dry before applying the foundation.
Top Tip
I don't like to wear foundation on my neck, it's a different colour to the skin on my face and décolleté, and it's almost impossible to get a natural-looking finish. This primer helps fill any lines and being slightly tinted; it helps mask the look of an uneven colour. The clever airless packaging dispenses the product from the bottom in one push - it's genius.
Step 3
Youth FX Fill + Blur Concealer
My favourite product in the range is the Youth FX Fill + Blur Concealer for its ability to blur the fine lines under the eyes, and not appear like you are wearing much makeup.
It also corrects darkness and helps wipe out the look of puffiness (my biggest concern). This magic wand contains optical diffusers, which is great for concealing dark circles thanks to the finish that is a pearly, sheer glow.
Top tip
This concealer is designed for under the eye area. However, it's brilliant on the brow bone to highlight a groomed brow, and I also apply it around the lips before applying colour to prevent my lipstick bleeding.
Step 4
Youth FX Fill + Blur Foundation SPF20
I don't like the look of thick foundation; it adds years to my face. Youth FX Fill and Blur Foundation tints skin with lightweight colour that conceals brown spots, yet allows my complexion to shine through. The foundation is packed with hydrating and colour correcting ingredients and an essential SPF20 - it feels mousse-like in consistency, yet dries to a tinted moisturiser finish with a good colour payoff. I like to apply it with my fingers, the warmth from your hands helps the formula melt into the skin in seconds. To finish I use a large buffing brush (a sponge works well also), to leave a seamless coverage.
Top Tip
Once the foundation is dry, (it only takes a few seconds) I use the concealer over the top for extra coverage on my brown spots, and it's ideal applied all over the lips to fill fine lines before lipstick.
