Discover a sulphate-free haircare range that is about to change your shampoo experience forever. Editor Trudi Brewer lathers up.
It's an everyday beauty duty but how much thought do you give to the haircare you use? While we're used to scrutinising the ingredients in the products we use on our face and body, we might not be quite so diligent when it comes to what we use to shampoo our hair. After all, it's just shampoo, right?
Wrong! If you struggle to tame unruly locks or find yourself washing your hair daily because it gets greasy quickly, your shampoo could be to blame. Here's a quick science lesson: Most shampoos contain sulphates (which you've probably been avoiding in your facial cleansers for years). Sulphates are essentially just detergents and are responsible for that satisfying lather and 'squeaky clean' feeling we all know and love. The reason sulphates produce that 'squeak', however, is because they strip your hair and scalp of its natural oils. The result is that oil production goes into overdrive to compensate for the loss of moisture (hello greasy hair), your scalp may become dry and irritated (dandruff anyone?), and your locks will look dull and dehydrated, leading to frizz and split ends. The solution? Switch to a sulphate-free haircare range like Pure Fiji's luxurious Coconut Milk Shampoo and Conditioner. The blend of cold-pressed nut oils work to nourish your scalp and hair and rebalance natural oil production. The result? Healthier, shinier hair that stays cleaner for longer.
And finally, one big plus you will be caring for our planet once you make the switch. The beauty products you use in the shower wash down the drain and into our oceans. The more you can be chemical free with products you wash off, the more care you take to help preserve our precious planet.
My picks from the Pure Fiji Coconut range
Pure Fiji Coconut Milk Shampoo, $26. Pure Fiji Coconut Milk Conditioner, $26. Pure Fiji Exotic Bath & Body Oil, $46. Pure Fiji Shower Gel, $31.
How to
First cleanse: Start by massaging a small amount of Pure Fiji Coconut Milk Shampoo deep into your roots. This first cleanse won't result in much lather as you gently remove barrier oil.
Second cleanse: Rinse and follow with a second shampoo. This is the most important step as the formula's natural cleansing agent (derived from coconut) will remove excess impurities and lather into a rich, creamy texture.
Condition: After rinsing, work Pure Fiji's lightweight Coconut Milk Conditioner through the length of your hair for deep hydration that won't weigh hair down.
Treatment: Once a week, massage warmed Pure Fiji Exotic Bath & Body Oil through your hair (preferably leaving it on overnight), followed by a double cleanse to reveal deeply nourished, smooth, soft and shiny hair.
Tip: Don't forget, your hair won't feel as 'squeaky clean' as you're used to – but this is a good thing! As oil production rebalances, you'll find you don't need to wash your hair as frequently. Start by washing it every second day, then every third day for best results.
