Our editor is obsessed with indoor plants. In fact, her favourite click & collect right now is from her local Plant Barn - and she’s not alone. The world of indoor greenery has exploded, and it’s safe to say it’s one of the fastest-growing home hobbies. Here are the plant enthusiasts we follow on the gram, we promise they will inspire those green thumbsed amongst us. By editor Trudi Brewer.
Once you’re confident you can keep a plant alive, you will plunge into full-time plant parenthood. The first hurdle is how will they fit into your house, and how to style them with your existing decor style. Here are the Instagram hobbyists and some pros. These accounts will not only make growing pot plants less intimidating but their aspirational spaces and styles will prove how pleasurable this hobby can be.
@thesill
New Yorker Eliza Blank founded The Sill in 2012. As a self-obsessed plant lover, her goal is to make plants accessible to all, with the tools to keep them alive. As Eliza says, “Plants create time and space to nurture yourself. If you’re not making time for them, you’re probably not making time for yourself either.” The Sill connects you with nature, so you can cultivate a life well-lived. Blank’s motto. “Rest your eye on something beautiful. Touch something alive. Find a moment of stillness, of quiet contemplation. Let nature bring out the best in you.“ We could not agree more - plants make people happy. Follow The Sill, and join the green movement. Blank says, “Creating time and space to nurture yourself. If you’re not making time for them, you’re probably not making time for yourself either.”
@thepottedjungle
San Diego based plantaholic, Jillian started her account in 2017. Designed to share her gorgeous planted decor ideas, along with plant care tips and her fab finds of modern pots and planters to create your own indoor jungle. Her brand quickly morphed into an online store, selling the best pots and planters. “Our goal is simple, we want to help you create the jungle of your dreams by offering modern plant decor at a reasonable price while supporting relief projects around the world.”
Jillian gives 10 per cent of sales to reLEAF a charity Feeding America. Serving communities and individuals who are facing hunger due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that is kind.
@succulentcity
Firm, succulent fans, the team at Succulent City are some of the best for sharing unique specimens, connecting plant lovers and sharing their knowledge and passion for succulents and have been that way since 2018. From propagation to watering techniques and new succulents species (we wish the varieties they share were available in NZ). They also have an online shop with dozens of helpful guides and reviews and even a collection of ebooks and, of course, plants. Our budding succulent collector, style director Louise Hilsz is a devoted follower. If you want help building your succulent collection, join their Facebook community Succulent City Plant Lounge. It’s here you too can share cute photos of your plant family, ask questions, and swap care tips with other succulent fans.

Caribbean native Stephanie Watkins is a maximalist. Her colourful furnishings, eclectic fabrics and wallpaper complement her plant collection that brings the outdoors into her perfect-looking home. She showcases her plant family with just as much creativity as she uses to showcase her interior style - we adore her clever, wood-slatted plant wall. She also runs a design blog Casa Watkins Living, an evolving diary of images and tips she has learned while renovation her Maryland home, in West Virginia USA. Her signature style, "Colourful modern bohemian with global fusion."
@kim.wynn
Fangirl alert. Kimberly Wynn is a babe. A plant lover and career broadcaster, she is part of the CTV Morning Live team, in Edmonton Canada. Here work-life is spent covering community events and interviewing entrepreneurs, but it’s her spare time, we follow. Kimberly loves taking care of her home jungle and two adorable dogs. Her home is her green haven, and it’s great to watch her renovation stories. Her favourite way to start the day. “To get slapped in the face by a leaf.”

Dutch designer and co-author of Plant Tribe, Judith de Graaff, is trying to make the world a little bit more beautiful, greener and colourful. We think she has succeeded. Moving from her industrial loft in the Oise (near Paris) to the Ardèche, of Southeastern France. She has documented her decor journey. Her weekly junk hunting trips are recorded on Urban Jungle Bloggers, but for a daily dose of her style and her eclectic plant collection when we check out her latest posts we feel like you’re tripping around the globe without leaving the couch.
