Are you plopping your hair?

Some of you may have already been doing this for a while, but now it’s got a name, we want to share the virtues of plopping, says Editor Trudi Brewer.

Tried and true, now that plopping is a thing, we thought it was time to give this hair trick the BeautyEQ seal of approval. So, in short, plopping is the ideal heat-free way to encourage natural waves into your hair. Anyone with unmanageable curls or long curly hair (it stops the weight of water and moisture in their hair, pulling out the curl pattern before it's had a chance to dry). Or you crave more definition and less frizz in a shorter hairstyle (it stops you from touching your curls while they dry) - it's time to get plopping.

DIY plopping, how to?

Wash your hair and apply a leave-in conditioner to damp hair. This is a vital step, when you consider everything your hair endures once you step out of the shower: rough towels, rough pillows, combing, brushing, and then heat styling. Next, wrap your hair in an Aquis towel, silk or microfiber turban; or if you don't have one, you can use a dry T-shirt to allow the moisture from your hair to be absorbed while your hair dries. Wait 20 minutes until your hair is dry, or sleep overnight with your hair wrapped in a towel, and then untie the towel and use your fingers to spread out the hair.

Who is plopping best suited to?

Anyone who wants to embrace the natural wave in their hair regardless of your hair's length. When your hair is tightly wrapped into a cloth, it prevents static, which is why hair goes frizzy. In addition, it helps to dry your curls quicker than ever, significantly cutting down the need for heat styling. Finally, it reduces the risk of split ends and can help boost lift at the roots seeing your hair drying on top of your head and not being weighed down by water and gravity.
