Fifteen years in business is worth honouring, and what better way to mark the occasion than with a glass of fruity pinot rosè. Editor Trudi Brewer chats with recording artist and jewellery designer Boh Runga on her latest celebratory project - Bohsè.
Image BeautyEQ, the new Bohsè wine to celebrate 15 years of Boh Runga jewellery, with Editor Trudi Brewer’s Boh Runga’s collection of jewels.
Boh Runga is delightful. She has captured our hearts and style for over a decade as an acclaimed recording artist and jewellery designer, and her latest project is right in our lane. It's both pretty and versatile, a beautiful shade of pink, a full-bodied pinot rosè. Made to celebrate 15 years in the business, this project collaborates with friends, cleverly named Bohsé, a blend of the recording artist's name and the wine variety. It features watermelon, cookies, rose petals, and fresh herbs, the label designed by Runga to reflect the tasting notes. Ant Moore Wines are the makers of Bohsé. The first collaboration in what Boh Runga and Ant Moore say will be an ongoing partnership. Moore says, "Bohsé playfully re-imagines their Signature rosé. Bohsé has notes of perfumed rose petals and a hint of thyme with cookies and cream and segues into a fruit salad of wild berries and crisp watermelon for a refreshing, dry finish." Runga says, "Bohsé complements seasonal fruits and cheese, beach sunsets, cosy nights in, and your most favourite friends. It's for raising a toast and enjoying with those that you love to be with the most," says Runga. Rosé is undoubtedly the most 'Instagrammable' glass of wine with nearly three million photos tagged #rosé. Add this pretty label and the fact it's the work of one of New Zealand's nicest singer-songwriters, and we think Runga is onto a winner. We celebrated the end of a busy week with a bottle of Bohsè, served not too cold, so you can't taste those berry notes, but chilled to about 10 degrees, with what was in our minds the perfect match. A creamy chilli Castello cheese, with slices of chilled fresh watermelon and parmesan crackers. Congratulations on 15 years, Boh Runga; cheers to that. Your pinot-inspired pink rosè is delicious.
Just like the Boh Runga jewellery collection, Bohsè, $29, comes boxed and can be a personalised handwritten message. Bohsé is already sporting the gold sticker of approval from WineOrbit. In his review, WineOrbit’s Sam Kim says Bohsé is elegant and delightfully flavoursome with a lengthy refreshing finish, best enjoyed from now until 2023.
Dine with: "I think Bohsé is delicious with simple fare. Garlic salted grilled chicken, buttered beans, and my homegrown kumara are naturally sweet and seem to compliment the wine nicely. I've yet to drink it with fish and chips, but there's still time," says Runga.
Graze with: "Clevedon Buffalo Co make a beautiful marinated Buffalo cheese, with crackers of choice. Or marinated shellfish of your choice. Both equally delicious," says Runga.
Bohsé, $29, is online at bohrunga.com. Watch this space; this new wine is the first of many releases to celebrate the brand's 15th anniversary.
