We have clocked the last day of summer, yet the weather is still balmy. Before you think it’s too warm to start planning a winter wardrobe, it is time to get across the autumn trends as they hit stores this month. Style director Louise Hilsz rounds up some of our favourites.
Green
Following on from 2021, green is still the shade to covet. From emerald to lime, it’s a shade that embodies nature by representing harmony, growth and refinement. Get ready to see a forest of green, brighter than ever.
Twenty Seven Names Dear Diary blazer, $680. Gregory Ash dress, $449. Coop Hit The Road jacket, $349. Hailwood Valencia Heart ring, $399.
Statement Suiting
Whether we were actually in the office or not, corporate-chic is back. But not the business attire we once wore. Forget the bodycon dresses and sharp blazers; this season celebrates relaxed tailoring. If you are looking for a new-look business style, look out for statement suiting with an oversized man-style jacket. But before you pull out those sky-high pumps, it's a loafer or glam sneaker that will finish this look.
Victoria Beckham Tailored Single Breast jacket, $1490. World Stay Forever Blazer Cream Floral, $899. Shona Joy Alma Double Breasted blazer, $389. Aje. Vortex Cut Out blazer, $525.
Bold Colour Blocking
Colour is everything when you're building a new season wardrobe, and this season's bold blocking is everywhere. From shades of crimson to sky, fuchsia and burgundy, with citron and olive, the only rule is to mix two or three contrasting shades to create a statement look. But before you think, I'm not sure - colour blocking will influence fashion for decades to come, we promise.
Mi Piaci Millie Ankle boot, $380. Acne Studios Wool Stripe Face Sweater, $579. Layplan Lulu dress, $350. Karen Walker Ultra Vulture Orange Hazard sunglasses, $240.
Waistcoats
The tailored vest-as-a-top works for any age. If you have a vintage vest in your wardrobe, it's time to pull it out. From classic pinstripe to leather or lace, as long as it's fitted, it's fantastic. Team it with denim and a statement belt or an elegant three-piece suit. It's the season to celebrate man style; the waistcoat has made a remarkable comeback.
Harris Tapper Albert waistcoat, $599. The Garment Assisi Tweed waistcoat, $389. Repertoire Briana waistcoat, $369. Witchery Button Front waistcoat, $170.
Moody prints
Winter prints are glamorous yet casual, or as fashion experts call them, ‘Glasual,’ a beautiful blend of both. These moody prints are womanly rather than girlish and will instantly update your style. If you prefer a sombre fashion palette for autumn, mix your black, navy and grey staples with a moody print, teamed with a pair of chunky boots.
Kate Sylvester Jamie dress, $549. Jimmy D Trick With A knife Wrap dress, $760. Juliette Hogan Treasure Tunic Enchanted Forest Satin Emerald. Storm Haze Print dress, $369.
Matchy Matchy
We adore matchy-matchy dressing. This season it's been reinvented with playful prints and bold block colours. Feel free to include accessories; if you thought matching handbag and shoes was precious, once paired with a casual look, it suddenly makes low-key sports luxe look super chic.

For every festive occasion.
