The only thing better than finding a product you love is one you can replace sustainably. Along with the drive for clean beauty formulations, beauty brands are making more of an effort to create more sustainable packaging. They’re shifting towards refillable and reusable, upcycled glass bottles, jars, and compacts that can be repurposed. It's a giant step in the right direction to help reduce plastic waste or single-use plastic products. Still, just as certain materials can be recycled, specific packaging designs cannot be refilled and will end up in landfills. Under increasing pressure to consider its vast environmental footprint and contribution to global plastic waste, stats from the British Beauty Council say 95 per cent of cosmetic packaging is discarded, and of the 14 per cent of beauty products we recycle, only about nine per cent can be repurposed at recycling centres. The rest end up in landfills, taking up to 450 years to break down. So, if planet-saving isn't enough of a draw card for you, consider the financial gains of refillables and how they can save you money. Finally, while not all beauty products are refillable, top sellers are taking the lead, with new launches all offering refillable sustainable packaging. Here are some who are leading the charge.
