Have you ever discovered a fragrance by chance? Editor Trudi Brewer shares a new scent designed to deliver a whiff of a holiday with every spritz.
Ellis Brooklyn Salt EDP, $210.
This scent is new to me, and it’s one I would have never discovered without spending an afternoon with the team at Mecca Cosmetica and experiencing a fragrance mapping. Designed to find the ultiminte scent for you; after testing and sniffing quite a few, it was Salt by Ellis Brooklyn that became my soul scent. It’s summery, with a tropical-inspired take on what the brand calls a gourmand or foodie fragrance. According to the brand, “It’s like a holiday in a bottle, or the second best thing if a holiday is out of reach,” which for me, is the case. Read on to find out why I think it’s bloody gorgeous.
What’s in it?
Inspired by the soul-healing properties of the ocean, it’s stacked with tropical island blooms, including ylang ylang, Tahitian tiare (that smells like gardenia) and magnolia dianica (some say smells like a glass of Champagne). But it’s an elegant blend of musk and vegan ambergris ( a sweet earthy aroma) with sandalwood that makes it unique. Finally, it lives up to the world’s expectations of scent these days; it’s gender-neutral, vegan and certified cruelty-free by PETA.
Why do I like it?
It’s a scented masterpiece. First, I love the pale blue bottle and the name; it’s so understated until you spray it on your skin. All the ingredients blend perfectly to give you that feeling of wanderlust. It instantly leaves a clean habit-forming freshness and an addictive creamy aroma that lingers for hours. It speaks to my fragrance taste - it’s a simple, soothing ideal as an everyday scent for work that becomes completely seductive after five. I have been spraying it all over even when I am not leaving the house - just for the sheer joy of it.
The latest rosy designer scent.
