The collection
MAC Cosmetics Hyper Real Fresh Canvas Cleansing Oil, $82
If you like an oil cleanser ( I do), the ultra-light blend of jojoba, sunflower, and camellia oil swiftly removes makeup - even waterproof mascara, in one rinse. A clever move MAC because makeup junkies should be using oil cleansers (twice a day) to remove indelible foundations, eyeliners and lipstick. Don’t fear a greasy texture in its wake or any breakout because it’s oil; it’s ideal for oily, sensitive and dry skin types. Just dewy-looking skin infused with a floral fragrance - it’s lovely.
Try super hydrated, smooth and dewy on for size with this serum. It was made to hydrate and address that T-zone shine, which I don’t have, so I was worried if it would suit my ageing skin. But wait, if you’re a skincare nerd like me, the ingredients are up there with some of the best. MAC calls it their Pro-4 Power Infusion Matrix, a blend of Japanese Peony Acid, niacinamide (vitamin B3), and a combo of moisture-boosting hyaluronic acid and ceramides. But the bonus, after using this in tandem with the Balm Moisture Cream, I no longer need a primer before applying makeup - win-win, right?
While this balm is universally appropriate for any skin type, it’s rich enough for my dry complexion but does not feel greasy on my skin. Another great base for foundation if you’re not a serum fan. I have used it twice daily, and my skin soaks it up - the texture is spot on.
My overall impression
For a makeup brand with some banging products, the Strobe Cream and MAC LipGlass, are among my faves; this skincare is as good as any you can buy at a beauty counter. Instantly, its sister brands come to mind, such as Clinique and Estèe Lauder, who I have surely influenced the texture and ingredient lineup. MAC say it was created to be the perfect canvas for makeup, lightweight and sinks into the skin within seconds. As well as giving dull skin a brightening boost - and I have to say it delivers. I adore the packaging; it’s clean and minimal-looking, and the addition of the Serum + Moisturiser Brush is brilliant. -Not only will this brush help you use just enough product, so you don’t waste any, it means you can apply the serum and cream lovingly to clean skin without using grubby fingers. Overall it’s glow-giving skincare at a great price - solid MAC.
