Credited for launching the Barbiecore trend, the Barbie is out, and the hype is real. This is our nod to one of our favourite shades - pink, by style director Louise Hilsz.
Since Warner Bros. hit the gram with teasers for the Barbie movie, we have been obsessing over Barbieland. Now we’ve seen the film (which is fantastic), this upbeat shade and the memory of our own Barbies has made us want to see it again. You may think the movie could be cheesy, yes, and it is every bit of a chic flick, but it’s worth noting that some crew members are film industry royalty. Feminist auteur Greta Gerwig wrote and directed the movie (the script is genius). It’s a film to inspire utter joy, fashion appreciation, laugh-out-loud moments, and a terrific leading lady with nothing to prove. Australian actress Margot Robbie plays the role of Barbie, with her love interest Ken, Ryan Gosling. Both actors bring series credibility to the film. The costumes and makeup are the work of some off-screen stars too. Oscar-winning designer Jacqueline Durran, who previously collaborated with Gerwig on the wardrobe for Little Women, created the look alongside famous makeup artist and hairdresser Robb Crafer whose recent credits can be seen on, Guardians of the Galaxy. Crafer has mastered Barbie’s '70s free-spirited hair, flawless complexion, and glossy pink pout. Together this crew bring a magic touch to make a cracker of a movie that is a symphony in colour. So to enjoy the Barbie phenomenon right now, here is the latest fashion and beauty in what else, pink.
