The latest J-beauty trend on our radar was created to perfect natural nails. This new DIY P.SHINE Japanese manicure aims to improve nail health, leaving a beautiful pearlescent finish without a drop of polish. Editor Trudi Brewer shares a two-step treatment ideal for those who want to detox from acrylics or UV gel polish. Read on to learn more.
How it works
The beauty of the Japanese P.SHINE manicure is that it’s a DIY kit you can use anytime. A simple two-step process starts with shaping, buffing the nail, and then pushing back the cuticles. Next, the pale green paste is applied. This is made with a mix of nail-loving ingredients, including vitamins A and E, bee pollen, keratin (the protein found naturally in nails), silica (a mineral from the sea in Japan), jojoba, bamboo, ylang-ylang and red tea. You need to buff the paste into the nail using a chamois file (natural leather) that comes in the kit. Next, the powder (known as P.Shine powder) is made from a blend of diatomaceous earth (a natural silica rock crumbled into a fine powder) mixed with beeswax and made to seal the nutrients from the paste into the nail. It leaves a slight pink sheen on the nails, lasting about two weeks. The combination of wax and powder makes your nails shiny and strong while filling in any ridges or bumps on your nail plate; this combination naturally wears off over two weeks. If you want a break from gel nails, it’s a great way to strengthen and lighten your natural nails.
