The latest nail trends

Nail colour is an effortless accessory that is easy to switch up. Regarding trends, nail techs are raving about the cat-eye, halo polish finish, delicate glitter in rose gold, or large confetti. But perhaps our favourite is an elegant velvet-inspired manicure. Editor Trudi Brewer shares the latest looks that capture our attention.

Almost all the latest nail trends offer mirror-like shine and work for nail minimalists or anyone who loves bold nail art. Here’s some inspiration for your next mani or DIY polish.

Cat-EYE nails

This look is characterised by a subtle metallic glow or spotlight of colour in the middle or diagonally across the nail. Its name is inspired by the jewel-like shimmer you see when staring into a cat's eyes.

Hanami Nail Polish in Moodring, $28

Halo nails

A new spin on a classic ombre nail look is a good option if you can't decide between two shades - have both. Complementary colours play off one another in tone and finish, creating a halo effect on every finger.

Hanami Nail Polish in Holograms, $28.

Rose gold Glitter

Once dipped in gold glitter, any nail length is perfect for this touch of sparkle. Start with a nude or peachy polish base topped off with this rosy shimmer - it’s pretty and easy to achieve at home.

manucurist Glitters Duo in Rose gold. $36.

Confetti nails

If you want your glitter to stand out or crave that Bejeweled effect, then confetti glitter is having a moment. Over colour or under a clear polish, sequins can be hand-placed to create a confetti ombré effect, or you can choose a chunky glitter polish to tip the ends or paint the entire nail. It’s pretty and versatile.

Essie Nail Polish in a cut above $19.

Velvet nails

The velvet mani is perhaps the most luxe-looking nail art this season. It can be achieved in various shades, from sheer to bold. Velvet nails, like velvet fabric, instantly elevate your look.

OPI Infinite Shine in My Own Bestie, $25.

Vintage Gold

It doesn't get more luxurious than shimmery gold. To replicate this at home, use a beige base and try a gold French tip. Remember to finish with a layer or two of top coat to keep it glossy.

CHANEL LE VERNIS Nail Colour in 157 PHÉNIX, $53.

Polka dots

Tiny polka dots are super cute and easy to create at home. Have fun mixing different colours—some glitter and some matte, placing the dots at the tip of the nail. The result is playful and bespoke. One of our favourite colour combinations is pink and terracotta.
