What's in it?

The fruit-forward fragrance category is showing no signs of waning. And this newbie perfectly blends exotic fruit, including honeydew melon, rhubarb, bergamot, and strawberry leaf, seasoned with spicy pink pepper. Rounded off with florals, namely jasmine sambac, tuberose, white peony, and galbanum (a natural, aromatic gum resin), Ambrette (a musky-pear-like aroma) and upcycled cedarwood, to add an addictive earthiness. It's fresh and almost sweet at first, but the tart balance of the summer fruit and humble woody notes makes it modern and wearable. Founder of Ellis Brookly, Bee Shapiro is known for capturing the essence of a fragrance's namesake. SALT is an excellent example of this. What does salt smell like? Shapiro says, "It’s like a holiday in a bottle or the second best thing if a holiday is out of reach.” It’s undoubtedly summer and tropical-inspired, but as a nod to the condiment salt, it's what the brand calls a gourmand or foodie fragrance thanks to the addition of musk, ambergris and sandalwood.
Back to DEAR SKY, well, it has the same appeal. You almost can’t put your finger on what’s in it. But Shapiro has taken what is a fruity fragrance and, as an ode to the American West, created a modern version of what can be, for some, a cloying category. "DEAR SKY was made for Shapiro's second daughter, Sky. "She's my bold one, creative and full of light. I've also been spending some time in Texas lately, and I've been inspired by the light in Hill Country at dusk. There's this sense of radiance, but also an optimism that anything is possible." The ingredients In DEAR SKY are 87 per cent renewable, and like all the Ellis Brooklyn scents, it's vegan, paraben, and phthalates and is cruelty-free.

Why do I like it?

This fragrance speaks to me, from the subtle halo-effect pink and green iridescent bottle (reminiscent of sunrise) to the lingering scent of melon. While I don’t generally gravitate toward fruity-laden scents, this one is fresh enough to wear daily but warm enough to linger all night. It’s another triumph from a brand that keeps bringing us scents we can't stop smelling.
