There has never been a more befitting saying, omne trium perfectum, a trio of words in Latin that means - everything that is three is perfect. This best describes Marc Jacob’s Perfect collection. His latest is fresh and feminine - read on to learn why by editor Trudi Brewer.
Set to join what is now the Perfect trio, Marc Jacobs clearly knows when he is onto a good thing. Case in point with this new Prefect. It joins the successful Perfect Eau de Parfum and Perfect Intense; this newbie is a luminous floral, which Jacob says “Gives the wearer permission to celebrate the power of being true to yourself.” All of the Perfect perfumes are inspired by a mantra the designer lives by: “I am perfect as I am,” which is symbolised by a tattoo of the word “perfect” on his wrist. Marc Jacobs Perfect Eau de Toilette, 50ml, $164, also comes in 100ml, $224.
What’s in it?
It’s a more mellow, fresh scent than the last potent and intense Perfect fragrances. It reimagines a white spring bouquet, including daffodils with a hint of spicy pink peppercorn. The Polygonum herb brings a fresh greenness to this fragrance that some say smells like tart rhubarb. Finally, cedarwood gives a lasting subtle woody aroma that, once on the skin, leaves an elegant yet uplifting trail.
Why do I like it?
We have been coveting Marc Jacobs's fashion and fragrance for decades, and his impressive scent portfolio improves every season. Jacobs has taken as much care with the ingredients as he has with the bottle design of this newbie. That same ornate cap marries all three Perfect scents; this one has a similar collection of mismatched charms in silver and cool green to match the refreshing fragrance inside the chunky glass bottle. I am unsure which Perfect I like best. Each offers subtle nuances of the other, and all three are connected by how they look. This floral is citrusy with a peppery bite, but it has a freshness that makes it feel appropriate to wear year-round - I guess now, with this perfect trio, I am spoilt for choice.
Another designer expression of loving our true selves.
