Suppose you’re not heading to Europe for a summer getaway (like me); Diptyque plans to take you there with a Mediterranean-inspired floral scent - Ilio Eau De Toilette. Editor Trudi Brewer shares why it’s almost as good as a holiday in the sun.
I am trying to reflect on how divine a European summer is. It’s been years since my senses were filled with endless sunshine, the sight of that celestial aqua-coloured ocean, delicious aromas and making memories with friends in an unforgettable destination. Diptyque feels the same way. The Mediterranean is a constant source of inspiration for French Maison’s scent collection, including their latest, limited edition Ilio Eau De Toilette. Read on to find out what it smells like.
What’s in it?
diptyque Ilio Eau De Toilette, $266.
The lavender, lemongrass, and prickly pear blend give this fragrance a mouthwatering burst of freshness. Energising and calming thanks to the tangy bergamot, subtle jasmine, and earthy iris. These ingredients transport me to that golden hour on holiday, sipping an Aperol Spritz at sunset.
Finally, each bottle signals summer, with illustrations from American artist Erik Winkowski reminiscent of days well spent under that soul-warming European sun.
There is also a Diptyque Ilio Hair Mist, $106, Diptyque Citronnelle & Geranium Summer Body Spray, $93 and Diptyque Ilio Candle Citronnelle, $112 in the collection. All are only available for a limited time.
Why do I like it?
If your scent preference is citrus or sweet, salty or fruity, this dreamy fragrance is a blend of the best. Most of us gravitate toward memory-inducing scents, especially one that evokes a recent holiday. This limited edition eau de toilette starts fresh and tangy but gradually becomes breezy and delicate as it wears. It has an intriguing brightness, perfect as a summertime scent. Still, with our lack of sunshine lately, this scent strikes an outstanding balance between fruity and floral, making it one to wear in any climate.
