Trend alert: Blue is back and will dominate our beauty bags for 2024. We could argue that blue eye makeup has always been iconic, with every decade bringing its iteration. Highlighted by Barbie in 1959, Elizabeth TaylTaylor'sopatra and Andy WarhWarhol'silyn Monroe redefined the look in the 1960s. Stars like Liza Minelli and Twiggy reimagined this cool hue in the 1970s. But, perhaps the most famous face that made blue liner a beauty staple was Princess Diana in the 80s. Fast forward to 2024, and it’s 9’s supermodels putting this shade back on our must-have mood boards. Enjoy the array of colours as you scroll on.

How to

Dramatic and elegant, a flash of blue liner is stunning and contrasts with any eye colour. If you’re using a pencil, make sure it’s sharp. Warm it up by running it onto the back of your hand before applying it to the lash line. Keep the liner as close to the lashes as possible and flick it out at the corner of the eye. Liquid liners take a little more practice to perfect. Look into the mirror, tilt your head up, start at the corner of the eye, and work outwards. Use small cotton tips dipped in micellar water to clean up the edges.

How to

Creating a halo effect with blue eyeshadow works brilliantly. Blending from the lash line up towards the eyebrow opens the eye and gives it a fresh take on a classic neutral smoky eye. For best results, use brushes: a flat brush to place or pat the blue eyeshadow close to the lash line and then a softer fluffy brush to blend the colour up and out. To add extra drama, you can use a wet shadow close to the lash line to add extra definition.

HOW TO

Blue mascara makes a style statement all on its own. That flash of cobalt colour pairs beautifully dewy-looking, almost makeup-free skin and a nude glossy lip. There are no rules for who can wear blue mascara, but to make it pop, try contrasting it with peach or rusty makeup tones.
