How to look after your hair at home

Eleven weeks and counting without a stylist touching our hair. We don’t know about you but we need some DIY ideas to take our hair from looking drab to glam. Editor Trudi Brewer shares her hair helpers.

From all-natural overnight healers (that smell like a tropical cocktail) to some hard-working, violet-infused toners. Everyone needs hair help right now. In this edit, we share our best tips and excellent hair care to try while salons are still closed.

The top home hair care tips

Suppose you’re battling visible regrowth, or dry, faded-looking colour. A toning shampoo helps brighten the hair erasing that yellow from a brassy colour while nourishing your locks at the same time. This semi-permanent colour refresher can be from home, in the shower.

The Toner

Fudge Clean Blonde Classic Shampoo, $26.

The boldest violet toning we have tried, this shampoo will quickly neutralise brassy yellow tones from blonde and light brunette hair. Fueled with proteins, and nourishing guarana, as well as FragranceFuse technology so that each strand of hair is given a new lease on life.
To use: Must apply to wet hair. Massage in and leave for a few minutes and then rinse thoroughly.

For air-drying or heat styling, a smoothing cream to calm the frizz will work wonders on any hair type. Remember, if you do blow dry your hair, test the heat on your arm first; if it’s burning your skin, it will be damaging your hair.

The curl conditioner

Each of us has a different hair texture to deal with, you may be surprised at how much you love the natural texture or wave of your hair once you try wrapping damp hair in a towel and sleeping with it on overnight. It’s a styling game-changer.
