It’s a day to smile and celebrate your favourite lipstick shade. From sheers with sparkle to bold and mattes, July 29th calls for a painted pout, says editor Trudi Brewer.
Lipstick has the power to lift your spirits and brighten your smile while defining your style. It’s also a great measure of our economic mood; coined the Lipstick Index, lipstick sales (which are up again, by the way) suggest when we feel down about business, those less-expensive purchases such as lipstick go up - and what a way to boost our mood, right? Having a day to celebrate all things lip worthy gives you the chance to share what you love about wearing lipstick again on social media by tagging #NationalLipstickDay.
Here she shares the lippy she loves found at Life Pharmacy.
ELIZABETH ARDEN LIP COLOR LIPSTICK, in Notably Nude $54.
Creamy, with the excellent colour payoff, this new lipstick collection is stacked with Arden’s famous ceramide anti-ageing formula, vitamin E, and the hero ingredient Maracuja oil. Together these ingredients make this hydrating formulation stay put while preventing lipstick from bleeding into fine lines. Yes!
Benefit Cosmetics California Kissin Color Balm Pomegranate, $41.
Don’t be fooled by the balm-like finish of this lipstick; it offers an excellent colour payoff. The formula boasts hyaluronic acid to nourish lips while you wear it for eight hours. There are 12 gorgeous shades.
Clarins Lip Comfort Oil Intense No.08 Intense in Burgundy, $49.
This is where comfort and colour collide, a lip stain stacked with nourishing oils, including organic: hazelnut, jojoba and cranberry. There are eight colours.
Shiseido Modernmatte Powder Lipstick 501 Jazz Den, $55.
Hands down, one of my favourite matte lipstick formulas, non-drying full-coverage colour that’s weightless. Stacked with waxes and oils that melt onto the lips and colour that stay the day. There are 24 shades.
YSL Rouge Volupte Shine 12 Corail Incandescent, $66.
This colour, a soft summery coral, turned me onto this lipstick. Then, the delicious formula with hyaluronic acid microspheres that help hydrate your lips for eight hours; consider this a lip balm with colour. There are 14 pretty shades in the range.
Revlon Colorstay Matte Lite Crayon, in Cloud Wine, $27.
The latest offering from Revlon marries a feather-light texture thanks to matte nano-pigments, but it’s not drying and is transfer-proof. Easy to apply for that girl on the run (it’s essentially a lip liner and lipstick in one), it comes in twelve punchy shades.
