Before & after the Jane Iredale five-minute-face.

From prepping with skincare to amplifying your best assets with makeup, self-care can be quick, says beauty therapist and professional makeup artist Lisa Jamison, owner of Nefertiti Beauty Therapy in Milford on Auckland’s North Shore. Here she shares the virtues of mastering a five-minute-face, with only five products. Here’s how to.

Before you add a scrap of makeup to your skin, Lisa Jamison says, “It's important to start with a clean face. Cleansing and moisturising will help your products blend easily when doing simple makeup. Always apply a hydrating moisturiser and SPF to protect your skin from those harmful UV rays.” So to the Jane Iredale five-minute-face, Jamison says this was born from demand. “Women are short on time now. They also got used to not wearing makeup during COVID, so now they want a quick makeup look that works for their skin with limited products and fewer brushes.” Jamison quickly points out, “The reality of using dozens of products and an arsenal of brushes is not for everyone; now you can achieve simple contouring using your fingers are excellent for warming the makeup and helping it blend seamlessly into the skin,” says Jamison. The benefits of having a clean makeup routine are two-fold, Jamison adds. “Jane Iredale is multi-benefit; it’s skincare and makeup all-in-one. This five-minute makeup look is ideal for day and night; it can be applied after a facial so you can return to work. It’s so easy, and you don’t need many products - also, the glow it gives your skin is beautiful.” Scroll on to see the step-by-step guide.

Jane Iredale Smooth Affair Illuminating Glow Face Primer, $111.

Perhaps the most crucial step is to apply primer. Jamison says a primer before foundation perfects the skin, so you need less makeup. “You only need a pea-sized amount, then massage it into the skin until it’s absorbed, and it will help blur those imperfections and hydrate the skin simultaneously; it also helps your makeup stay put all day.”

The base

Jane Iredale PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation REFILL SPF 20, $85.

This mineral powder is your base and an SPF in one. Jamison says, “Always apply this powder in downward strokes onto the skin so it doesn’t get caught in the baby hairs or accentuate lines. Then, always mist the skin after applying powder to ensure your foundation goes from a powder to liquid, which helps with that skin glow.”

Jane Iredale Pure Pressed Base Mineral Foundation is refillable, Foundation Compact, $35.

Set & Hydrate

Jane Iredale Lavender Hydration Spray, $61.

“The idea behind a hydration spray like this is to set your makeup and leave it flawless by boosting the skin with moisture,” says Jamison. Who adds, “Be generous when you spritz your face after applying foundation, the lavender in this mist will calm any redness, and it’s great for refreshing your makeup during the day.”

There are four Jane Iredale Hydration Sprays, $61, each designed to set your makeup and with a range of different botanicals that correct and calm any complexion.

The glow givers

Jane Iredale Glow Time Blush & Bronzer Stick, $85.

These Glow Time Sticks are your bronzer, blush and eyeshadow for the five-minute-face. “The natural flush of colour cream blush and bronzer leaves on the skin are youthful and on-trend. First, apply a swipe of bronzer just under on top of the cheekbone, the chin and the jawline; this adds some subtle contour to the face. Then in three dots, add the blush just over the top of the bronzer swipes on the cheekbones.” Jamison says you can blend Glow Time Sticks with a blush brush or your fingers. “These also double as eyeshadows. Just apply a wash colour over the eyes and then top that off with mascara.”
With ten versatile shades. There are also Glow Time Highlighter Sticks in three shades, which add a gorgeous pearly glow to the tops of the cheekbones, nose bridge, and cupid's bow.

Add the finishing touches

Jane Iredale HydroPure Hyaluronic Lip Gloss, $62.

Finally, depending on your desired lip look, you can use a Lip Liner and a Lip gloss over the top of any shade in the Glow Time Sticks collection for a touch of colour on the lips. “Again, it’s a swipe of colour, and you're out the door,” says Jamison.

Jane Iredale HydroPure Hyaluronic Lip Gloss, $62, comes in 12 shades. Jane Iredale Lip Pencil, $28, comes in 10 shades.
