The secret to salon-smooth looking hair

Smoothing frizz in my naturally curly hair is a full-time job, however, once you realise it all starts in the shower, it’s a game-changer. The latest haircare collection from Umberto Giannini offers salon-smooth looking hair at home, says editor Trudi Brewer.

There is more to washing your hair than simply keeping it clean. It all starts with choosing the right products. First up, I don’t over wash my hair, I do go two to three days and use a dry shampoo between washes. But to smooth frizz, my goal, this haircare range offers it all. Read on to learn more.

Umberto Giannini Salon Smooth Shampoo, $25.

Yes, you have clean, lightly scented locks, but this shampoo is the reason your hair will look salon smooth. First, it gently removes product build-up and grime, for me that’s the dry shampoo. Stacked with vitamins, minerals and fatty acids, including avocado oil it also leaves my hair super-shiny.

Umberto Giannini Salon Smooth Conditioner, $25.

Remarkably lightweight for a rich conditioner that is packed with hair-loving ingredients, including vitamin E and avocado oil. But most importantly, it’s free from silicones, sulphates and parabens. I apply this conditioner on the mid-le-lengths and ends then massage the excess into my scalp and rinse well.

Umberto Giannini Salon Smooth Wonder Glosser, $25.

Consider this the mother of all leave-in conditioners. Not only does it calm frizz, but it also adds a smooth layer over each strand with a blend of natural wheat protein and safflower extract that also gives the added benefit of heat protection when styling with hot tools. Think of this as your hair primer, apply to towel-dried hair and then style as usual.

Umberto Giannini Miracle Worker Smooth Serum, $25.

In the same way, as a skin serum delivers a potent mix of active ingredients to target skin concerns, this potent hair serum does the same to transform dull, dry frizzy hair. Packed with argan oil that not only strengthens your hair and adds an enviable glossy shine. I use a few pumps on damp hair before styling and then another pump on my dry finished style to control flyaways and add texture.
