2023 has kicked off with some epic skincare newness, many with skin brightening in mind. After all, hyperpigmentation (small patches of darker skin tone known as age, liver or brown spots) is rising due to ozone layer depletion. Today this is the number one skin concern globally. Clinique has been addressing these concerns using hard-hitting ingredients and believes this is their first-ever moisturiser that hydrates while working to improve brown spots, promising visibly brighter-looking skin with a raft of potent antioxidants and powerful inhibitors of pigment synthesis. The two new products to join the Even Better Clinical lineup work in tandem to give your skin that lit-from-within glow. Here’s how they work.
What’s in the collection?
Clinique Even Better Clinical Brightening Moisturizer, $45.
The power behind this fluffy, lightweight moisturiser is what’s known as a CL302 Brightening Complex. A blend of synergistic brightening ingredients, including salicylic acid and glucosamine, exfoliate and help to normalise cell turnover, shifting those pigmented-looking skin cells from your complexion. Yeast extract, a favourite ingredient of Clinique’s they call a ‘cluster buster,’ contains enzymes that digest excess melanin, so dark spots fade over time. Brightening antioxidants vitamin C and UP302 (dimethoxytolyl propylresorcinol) further brighten. While Gyokuro (camellia leaf) extract and potent green tea calm any irritations, and finally, one of our favourite ingredients, hyaluronic acid, that moisture magnet keeps your skin feeling hydrated and looking dewy all day.
How to use it: This is your morning day cream followed by an SPF and your daily night cream applied to clean skin before bed.
Clinique Even Better Brightening Essence Lotion, $75.
An essence not to be confused with a toner or serum is a watery lotion at the heart of a Kbeauty routine. Why? It’s a pre-moisturiser of sorts due to its hydrating and active, brightening benefits; and how it helps the next layer of skincare, like serums and moisturisers, penetrate deeper into the skin. This new brightening essence also contains salicylic acid, the brightening CL302 complex, glucosamine, yeast extract, vitamin C (ascorbyl glucoside), and UP302, Gyokuro, green tea and hyaluronic acid.
How to use it: This is the second step in your day and night routine; on freshly-cleansed skin, pat and press it into your skin; we favour fingers and palms, or you can use a cotton pad. Wait a few minutes, and then apply serums and creams.
Note: Staying true to the Clinique values of being dermatologist approved, these products are free from all skin-irritating fragrances, alcohol, oil, paraben, phthalates, and SLE-free.
