When it comes to beauty habits, sunscreen and self-tan go hand in hand. Editor Trudi Brewer shares two newbies from the luxe-y brand St. Tropez designed for both the confident and novice self-tanner. Read on to learn more.
Do I have a new duo for you if you have dabbled with different self-tan formulas over the years and had a few mishaps, like streaks and stained sheets? These formulas are game-changers; they offer brilliant, faux, sun-kissed results from their 100 per cent natural formulas, but most importantly, they’re stacked with skincare ingredients, so your body not only looks bronzed, it glows.
St. Tropez Self Tan Luxe Whipped Crème Mousse, $78
This is the most luxurious self-tan I have ever used. It’s got the consistency and look of chocolate souffle and is stacked with skin-loving ingredients. While tanning mousse is often best for a more confident self-tanner, the instant bronze colour of this formula leaves a great guide to ensure you haven’t missed any bits. A tan with skincare benefits, including niacinamide (vitamin B3), vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, and echinacea, as well as a subtle floral fragrance. Leave it on for eight hours, and the guide colour washes off and that 100 per cent natural-looking bronze stays on the skin for a week. Of course, it’s vegan-friendly, cruelty-free, and okay for those with sensitive skin.
St. TROPEZ GRADUAL Classic TAN, $47.
If you are not a confident tanner, a gradual formula is your body lotion and tan all in one. First, hyaluronic acid helps draw water to the skin and keep it there. At the same time, the antioxidant plant-based marine algae blueberry and raspberry seed oils make this lightweight moisturizer ultra-nourishing. The melanin boosters in this 100 per cent natural formula deliver that natural sunkissed streak-free glow. It is fast absorbing, not sticky, and designed to be applied daily. Vegan and cruelty-free; there are two shades, Light/ Medium or Medium/Dark.
St. Tropez Double Velvet Mitt, $16.
Using a tanning mitt is how to get a seamless-looking tan. But a sunkissed glow starts long before the self-tan process. First, remember the number one rule - exfoliate. Then next, on those dry spots like elbows, knees, feet and backs of the hands, add a light moisturiser before applying your self-tan; use a lip balm on nails and cuticles to prevent excess self-tan absorption in these spots. Avoid oil-based moisturisers and deodorants the day you tan, as these can affect tanning development. Finally, work from the feet upward in long sweeping strokes when applying self-tan.
