By now, you’ll likely know about the popular skincare ingredient niacinamide. Add ceramides and red algae to that, and you’re starring at a soon-to-be top-selling eye cream. Editor Trudi Brewer shares a newbie that makes good on its promises.
Eye creams promise firmer skin, fewer fine lines and concealing dark circles, some even promising to erase fine lines. So many under-deliver. While everyone’s undereye issues vary, I think we have the same goal - to keep the skin under our eyes looking its best at any age, right? Check out the latest we rate.
Elizabeth Arden's ADVANCED CERAMIDE LIFT AND FIRM EYE CREAM, $125.
What’s in it?
The triple-action formula blends science and nature to firm the skin thanks to ceramides (lipids) that boost moisture and help strengthen that fragile skin under the eyes. Next, tetrapeptides, a blend of amino acids and protein, and edelweiss extract help reinforce the skin’s density and restore that look of firmness. While red algae support those ceramides to further firm and hydrate. Finally, one of our favourite vitamins (B3) or niacinamide improves the look of fatigue and minimises dark circles and puffiness.
Do you suffer from puffiness?
We have all been there, waking up with puffy eyes when you need to be looking your best. While this cream promises to combat that, a few lifestyle tweaks can help. Laying off salty snacks and one too many dirty martinis before bed. Sleep with your head on an extra pillow, this helps with lymphatic drainage and prevents puffiness. Finally, don’t apply your eye cream too close to your eye. Tap eye cream onto the orbital bone, and no go no further. If the cream is too close to your peepers while you sleep, your warm skin helps it travel, which almost always exasperates puffiness.
Why do I like it?
Right now, Elizabeth Arden is on a roll with youth-boosting skincare. The latest Advanced Ceramide Lift and Firm Day Cream SPF 15 is divine, and this new cream adds to their already excellent anti-ageing lineup. After a month of using this cream, it did target my fine lines to leave them less dry looking and much smoother, and it did help brighten up the skin under my eye, but the benefits don’t stop there. This formula has the texture of liquid silk, so it’s an awesome pick-me-up on sleepy mornings, and if you suffer from sensitivities, it’s fragrance-free. Finally, Arden is doing their bit for the planet; this cream comes in a sustainable, post-consumer recycled glass pot and lid.
